I plan to start my first Burgundy game next. I think I want to form the Netherlands eventually. Its my understanding that when you do, french land is ceded to france? is this land in the french region, land with french cores, what is the criteria there? do you cede anything else, like land in the HRE or elsewhere? if France is my vassal, will it cede to them and everything be okeydokey?

How about my strategy:
1. take calais during hyw
2. declare war on france and make them release all vassals and some minors
3. repeat
4. repeat
5. vassalize when down to paris
6. return it all

also a question here ^, making france release minors will make them lose their cores on that land, right? I might have to declare no CB wars to get most of them back... so they'll buy it back, because they once owned it, but will have to core it again? is it better to just conquer france? edit: will I be hit with that glitch that I can't core it, so I can't sell it? grr

other than that, remove land from HRE, only vassalize hre folks until I can handle a coalition of earth, ally spain until they border me...

what about out-of-europe endeavors... should I try to go into the new world? I haven't but once since colonial nations came out because of the rampant glitches and how much less fun it is. I might do it because might as well, throw some colonists over there. I might conquer indonesia eventually.

edit3: I plan to ally spain while catholic, and then switch protestant and ally denmark/sweden/brandenburg, whoever is doing better and willing.
planned ideas: diplomatic>defensive>administrative>trade/naval (or exploration if I'm feeling like it)>quality>economic>the other diplo>whatever at his point

any tips from anyone? anything I said that is incorrect?

edit2: if anyone tells me to become emperor or even join HRE, go away. lol my ultimate goal is to dismantle the abomination

1) All land you own in the French region will be ceded to (and cored by) France if they exist in any fashion, no other lands will be ceded
2) No, forced release does not remove cores, only voluntary release or sale does that

It is jokingly easy to turn burgandy into a super netherlands. WHat you have to do first is either annex or vassalize all of france. As long as France is not independent, you keep your french lands. Do this before worrying about the HRE provinces, you will be busy. Use lots of mercenaries, you are super rich. Good allies to have are denmark in case England gets uppity, Castile, or Aragorn. Allies are not necessary though, you can actually go toe to toe with the french early.

Assuming France did not smash you in your first war (2 times out of 3 this happens, just restart) You should now be a super Burgandy. With your mercenary bonuses, you should be able to fight austria on even footing now. It is probably nearing the 1500s, and your admin is getting closer to 10, so you want those dutch provinces. Time to strike. I suggest just dismantling the HRE now if you can, otherwise just smash Austria. Hungary, Poland, Super Denmark (do not bother if Denmark did not get sweden) are the best allies for this part. Depending on how strong austria got, you may or may not need allies.

As for ideas, the only one I would say is necesary is naval. With the dutch ideas, you get a stupidly large fleet that can be used to dominate all european trade. You will have acces to both the mediteranian and the baltic eventually, so you NEED those ships. You can leave trade for like you 5th idea if you want to colonize, but I would also get economic.

After making the superlands, youve pretty much won the game and it gets boring. I suggest taking venice since it is trivial, confirming your thassalocracy, and possibly waging war on sunnis. You can actually take on Russia pretty easily with your mercs so they are not much of a threat.

point #2 is definitely wrong. just tried. forcing the release of armagnac removed all french cores.

When a nation is force-released, cores are lost in any provinces that don't belong to the releasing nation's primary culture.

n.b. Culture-union nations like France & Spain still only have one primary culture, which in France's case is cosmopolitaine.

At game start you should ally Castile and fabricate claims on a French region. Preferably something with mountains or rivers. After the claim DOW France. Don't go for Calais, you should hit France that exact moment while they are still sieging the Brits. Lay siege to your claim with mercs. Use small numbers to lure the French so that you get defensive bonuses.

You have to be careful about the French generals, they are demigods so you should at least try to roll some good ones of your own. Also at the peace deal, your first priority should be to stop vassalization of several minors like Foix of Armagnac. They may seem insignificant but they can contribute up to 10k soldiers which can win a lot of battles for France.

Also remember to totally annihilate France before going Netherlands. If you vassal them, all French region including your own will go to them, and if they rebel (vassals can rebel in 1.5) you may lose them.
