I've been trying to figure out if I could reliably get burgundian inheritance as Byzantium to help form the roman empire and I figured out some useful information i couldn't find anywhere.

You have absolutely no chance of getting the PU as a third party if you accept a royal marriage proposed by them. As that goes away when their ruler dies. They will only have the options to stay independent or join Austria or France.

You have to send the marriage offer or it won't happen. I'm absolutely sure I'm not the only one having that problem.

Also I tried to check rules to make sure I could post this here but didn't see a sticky on posting rules. Hopefully its ok. Also as mentioned i didnt see this mentioned anywhere. I just had to play test it to figure it out.

Yeah as it checks who burgundy has royal marriages with once Charles is dead, you have to have sent the royal marriage, as royal marriages end on the proposer's death

A general rule I've noticed is that, as France, is they aren't rivalled to Austria, you have a very, very slim chance of getting it. If they are rivalled to Austria, you have a high chance of getting it.

Having tested this specifically with the console as Byzantium, you can indeed get the BI as Byzantium but again, the chances are far higher if they are rivalled to the Emperor/Austria. Them simply having negative relations isn't enough because I've seen Austria get the BI even when the two countries were at war. Burgundy have to be close to -200 or so relations with Austria for it to fire for France or anyone else.
