So i just lost the BI to the Austrians, even tho i am allied to burgundy have max the relations with them and have a royal marriage with them aswell. On top of that burgundy just won a war againts the Austrians and they are rivaling eachother. Why is the AI even allowed to pick the Emperor in this case? It makes absolutely no sense, the Austrians had 200 development less than me when the event fired, i wasn't in a regency council btw. I feel like the event design should be changed, i know that this game is all about rng but this is just frustrating.

P.S: Im writing this because it was on Ironman, normally i would most likely save scum it. And going to war with Austria after the HRE crisis wasn't an option for me, cause i was fighting with england and just won a war againts the ottomans.

Probably Burgundy sent the RM offer to you. In that case the RM is broken as soon as Charles is dead and that removes you from being able to get it. No idea why it works like that.

If I were playing as Burgundy, I would always choose the weaker power so I have a better shot at going independent.
I get what you're saying, though. @Sargent Q makes a good point about the unilateral behavior of PUs, too, but I believe France and Emperor (usually Austria) are always options for BI regardless of RM status.
Personally, I would like the AI's behavior on events to be a little more logical and consistent. I know it always annoys me when Austria bows to the peasantry despite 3/4 of the diet voting to curtail the peasantry and the peasants failed to gain any ground during the disaster. That said, the game has to be semi-random to keep things original.

Hmm, maybe an option could be added to adjust the randomness of such things? Like "AI chooses options B, C and D 0%/1%/10% of the time" and then "AI is equally likely to choose each option".

Then us beginners could get a reasonably predictable game and you old coots something new each game. ;)

Looking at the wiki rivalry halves the chances they go with the HRE but doesn’t exclude it. Although I would have thought it should exclude it.
Previous wars have no affect.
It looks like you just got unlucky.

A previous poster has mentioned make sure you have sent the royal marriage proposal. It’s not clear there is a different in royal marriages depending on who sent the proposal like for an alliance for example but there is.
This is important as if you sent the proposal your royal marriage continues when Charles dies (and ends if your ruler dies). If they sent the proposal your royal marriage ends when Charles dies and the event checks for royal marriages after he dies and you would be excluded from the possible choices.

They already have touched upon this by making France more intelligent about when it goes to war with Austria over Burgundy. It used to do so automatically, even when it would get curb stomped.
