This is my second attempt at doing a FRG AAR. I made alot of mistakes in the first one, which was basically I cooked it to far in the FRG favour as they inherited a large military surplus from the USA (30 ship carrie CTF fleet) and to many planes and the like. In addition being allied to the USA allowed a invaison of the Soviet Union with 57 divisons as the USA nuked them 4 times and lent me 100+ inf divisions. The pan is to keep this one going for alot longer (long term sorta thing). Basiaclly I played until 45 as the USA and switched over to the FRG which was manually liberated in mid 43.I'll also try and make it more story focused with less screenshots used and I'll create some characters.

The goal to "complete" this AAR.

1. Annex USA, USSR, UK and all of the Allies.
2. Get to use late game units and technologys. I want to see nuclear powered aircraft carriers, nukes, rockets and ICBMs.
3. Lets see some naval action. The USA has a massive fleet of modern ships.
4. As always have fun.

Some absolute promises.
1. the USSR will be invaded on June 22 1951 come hell or high water.
2. No allies except for liberated puppet countries. Game starts allied to the USA but I'll leave the alliance before anyone is invaded.

The Cheeaty Mc Cheat Cheat Part
As the USA I used Acceptall against the Soviets as they DoW once Japan collapsed. I wanted to play a FRG game, not a WW3 USA vs USSR game. I also loaded the game as multiple countries using aceptall to get the borders resembling something historical as the redraw the boders event only partially fired and Greece, Poland and Yugoslavia in particular looked very messy. Vichy is still hangin on, and the USA oens northern france and I created Flanders and Wallonia.

ScreenSave0-2.jpg

The setup.
Nazi Germany surrendered in 43. I loaded up as the FRG and started a massive IC building run due to terminate in around 46. I continued the game util Japan was defeated in 44 and waited until the latest carrier run was complete in Aug45 and switched to the FRG. The USA gave the FRG
X4 arm
X2 HQ
C4 CAS
X8 TAC
and some interceptors (the AI built some in 43-45). The FRG has around
X2 HQs
X17 inf divisons
X7 armor available and has a large amount of HE162 interceptors available The navy is also modest with around a dozen transport ships available, and a few obsolete 1938 level destroyers. As I want a naval game the USA also gave them Cap Verde Islands, Diego Garcia and Okinawa out of left over territories from the end of WW2. The game will more or less be run conccurently with my DDR AAR with the goal of updating each one every 48 hours roughly. Sentimentally one of the 38 destroyers was captured off Nazi Germany and I gave it back to the FRG and it will be the flagship of the Deutsche Marine.

FRG Vs Nazi Germany
Advantages.
Inherited the USA naval doctrine
Good relations with the USA/Allies
Overseas naval bases
More open society- less partisan revolts

Downside
Less tech teams- no IG Farbin or Heinkel, Donitz/Goring, Von Braun.
Worse/less generals
drastically lower manupower, small starting army, lower manpower growth
Worse land doctrine?? (Blitzkrieg vs mechanized warfare)
No in game event to help you (Austria, Sudetenland etc)
Worse sliders
Weaker air and naval doctrine teams

FRG vs DDR
Advantages
drastically better tech teams. You inherit most of Nazi Germanies ones and you retain some of the best ones in the game- Krupp, Messerschmit,Mauser Werke, Konrad Zuse . Your new air and naval tech teams are alot beter than DDR. You also have rockettry and nuke tech teams.
Much beter naval doctrine
Better generals (several in the 2-4 range as opposed to 1-0)
Much less dissent in occupied provinces
USA blueprints

Disadvantages
Less IC due to sliders
DoW will incur a dissent hit
Soviets don't like FRG very much

I don't want to cheat at all but may consider an extra 200-300 manpower in the late 40's for Barbarossa 51. I may also use acceptall to negate any random DoWs but not if I get DoWed due to the FRG invading someone. The borders in the far east. Japan got a few territories back after they surrendered. Okinawa is FRG property.

Munich August 21 1945

The war had been over for two years. Germany was still recovering from the scars. Thankfully the bombing damage hadn't been to intensive as the American blitz across the north German plans had resulted in the occupation pf Germany while the British were just beginning thier aerial assault. The final battles of the war happened in Poland and the Baltics as the Wehrmacht was squeezed between the Americans and Red army. Berlin had been surrounded and hed out agains tall American assaults until they had reinforced the area once France had been liberated.

This was irrelevent to Michael Wittman. His final days of the war were spent in the Balkens in the last German pockets. Even with the total defeat of the Reich imminnet he lead his unit in a counterattack out of Zagreb as word came in the war was over. It was rumoured Hitler fell defending Berlin to the last. It was all pointless now as he worked in Munich installing new industrial plants to replace those lost in the war. Soetimes Michael wondered if he would have made it out fo the war alive if it had gon on much further. Job opportunities were scarce for a former SS man in the new Germany. He got the impression he only got this one due to a shortage of manpower despite millions of refugees flooding into Germany from the east.

"Micahel look at this" Briefly looking up form his work, one of his coworkers was holding up a newspaper printed by the Government- puppets of the Americans. The head pronounced a new constitution had been sighned and full self rule was being returned to Germany. Having a quick look through the paper the new government was looking for a few thousand volunteers for the new Wehrmacht- the "Bundeswehr". Also the government was pleased to announce the FRG was now an American ally instead of a puppet. Various workers were laughing around the worksite. Most were ex Wehrmacht and the only reason the Americans would allow this was to hit the USSR over the head with the new German state. Relations between the 2 superpowers were becoming strained and it was the USA's way of tweaking the Russians noses. The Bundeswehr was a shadow of the Wehrmacht as the US had let the FRG raise a few divisions and they had left behind some aircraft and tanks when they plled out. A few older destroyers were also left behind for coastguard duties.

Peenemünde August 21 1945

Several men were clustered around a fireplace and a large kettle was boiling away on it. They formed an orderly line and fresh coffee -real coffee not the ersatz rubbish was served. During the war Peenemunde was a top secret government facility working on rockets although the Americans had stripped the place bare and Von Braun was now working in the USA. The new government had sent some men here with orders to clear the site and to restore some of the buildings. Heavy construction machinery was brought in. Willi had served in the Luftwaffe and some strange looking ramps were also being set up. One of them seemed to have a prototype plne on it although it looked very small and it had no cockpit and only had 1 engine mounted towars the rear. It was also made out of wood. He briefly wondered about the mock up before the supervisor came over and ordered tohem to get back to work.

I have some screens to use, and I'll use more later on. I think I may have to do a moderate amount of cheating as manpower growth is awful and I didn't get to start with much in the way of manpower.

I live in Dunedin and grew up not to far from Waimate.

Today the FRG is pleased to announce the construction of new sites for the development of rocket and jet powered technology. The facilites at Peenemunde have been rebuilt and in the spirit of co-operation all such technologies shall be shared with our American allies.

ScreenSave2-4.jpg

The Almost 18 months of peace was shattered as the USSR deemed the Japanese to be worthy fighting. Since the Japanese surrender in late 44 the American anticipated something like this happening and had transferred a large amount of old cruisers and destroyers to the new Japanese state. While obsolete the ships were probably better than the scrap the Soviets called their navy. Japan should be safe.

ScreenSave5-5.jpg

June 16 1946

The current government had stopped repairing the damage inflicted in the war and new factory construction was winding down. Wittman had arrived in Rostock. The once busy naval yards were starting to come back to life. For the last 3 years the only new ships the FRG had constructed were a few merchant convoy ships. Due to Soviet aggressions in the far east the federal government had decided to order some new destroyers to patrol the seas around the naval base in Okinawa. A stranger walking along the docks strolled up to Michael. "Herr Wittman" turning to face the man Wittman warily replied "Yes". "We need a new supervisor. You seem qualified and we always look after or own. Welcome aboard" Slightly puzzled Wittman folowed the man into an office where he had to fill out some forms. Why would they need a former tank commander to be a supervisor?.....

July16 1946

The world wasn't a fai place thought Sven. He was just a poor fisherman in a ramshackle boat in the Baltic Sea. In the distance he could see a low flying plane flying at great speed Once it got closer he could see it was small and made a strange sound and it seemed to be coming straight at him!!!! Diving for cover the flying bomb flew overhead and splashed down in the sea. Thinking the Poles/Germans/Soviets must be crazy he turned around. Sven liked his home alot and somedays Sweden had alot more appeal than others. Today was one of those days.

Aug 16 1946

The old naval yards in Kiel were a hive of activity. Workers had been brought in from all over Germany to work on 3 massive new ships. The locals had no idea what what the keels were for and as far as the government was concerned the Soviets had ordered 3 new icebreakers from the capitalistic west. Icebreakers that needed flight decks. Some private seurity guards, ex wehrmacht maybe kept casual observers away form the dry docks.

Dec 3 1946

Sven the fishermen was out at sea again. He was getting older now and he was really thinking about retirement. He was a few miles of the coast near the German/Polish border. In the distance he saw a bright light- flames maybe rise into the sky. NBot wishing to have another near miss he turned his boat around and sailed towards home. Retirement was looking like a great option. Find some nice spot in an out of the way spot, sell boat, spend time with the grandchildren not worry about getting hit with rockets..........

Feb 6 47
The Federal government is pleased to announce the construction of a new powerplant, the first of its type in the world. In partnership with the Americans this plant has tamed the atom. While expensive in terms of resources, the FRG has renounced war as a foreign policy and the new Germany has abundent resources that don't need to be devoted to a cold war military buildup as he USSR seems to be doing.

Raaritzgorilla Only as far as blueprints and the like are concerned. The intital FRG had some obsolete destroyers, transports and X4 CAS, X8 TAC and some interceptors inherited from the USA. I wanted to start the FRG off with some units comparable to Germany 36.The Alliance will be dissolved when the first FRG troops cross the border.

Duke of Wellington 10 year anniversary of Barbarossa although in this game the Germans got DoW by the Soviets in 42 I think. The Germans barely made it to Kiev before collapsing.

Prutenio you are refering to the red territory in Yugoslavia? That was Amercan territory but it turned Soviet when Germany surrendered. I didn't get a manual redraw the borders event and the map is messy in parts..

Oct 27 1947. Sven was enjoying his retirement. He had sold his boat and bought a farmstead in northern Sweden. Newspapers had started reporting on "ghost rockets" . He was far away from the Baltic and any German/Polish/Soviet missiles. Late one night he was sitting beside the fireplace and a load explosion erupted outside. Rushing outside he discovered his barn on fire several hundred meters away. It would seem that the "ghost rockets" had now been developed into ballistic missiles. They stil weren't very accurate and this one was drastically off course.......

It had been a busy time in Kiel and the new flagship of the German navy was ready. While not the bigest fleet in the word the FRG argueable had the most advanced ships floating. This design was already obsolete and the next series was ready to be laid down.

ScreenSave7-2.jpg

The Graf Zeppelins maiden voyage took the carrier from Kiel to Wilhelmshafen. Back in Kiel a man had made his way through the dockworkers. "Herr Wittman Meine Ehre heißt Treue". Turning around slowly Wittman thought he would never hear those words again. Behind him ws a rather plain looking man dressed a smart business suit. Not wasting time the man proceeded "How would you like to be back in a Panzer again"? At first Wittman thought he was joking. He had little intention of joining the Bundeswehr, not that he had much choice being blacklisted due to being a prominent member of the SS. Carefully he replied "how"?.........

The Diplomatic Crisis of 48

Unknown to the current Germna government, resources had been diverted to various top secret projects scattered around Germany. In addition the Bundeswehr had massed on the borders of Austria. The diplomatic fallout was extensive and the American/German Alliance was dissolved. Since May20 the Germans had in their possession a new weapon after harnessing the power of the atom- and the rocket required to hit Moscow or London. An artists impression was presented to the UN.

Wittman ws back in a Panzer again. The Austrians and Hungarians had collapsed reasonably quickly. The Bundewehr was still winning though and at sea the navy was having a few technical difficulties having lost a large amount of obsolete destroyers. The main German fleet hoped to take care of that problem.

ScreenSave10-1.jpg

ScreenSave11.jpg

The Italians were putting up a bit more of a stuggle. Wittman wondered-Why didn't they fight like this in the desert in 1940-? His panzer divisions was advancing south when news came that Italy had decided to surrender- again. Unlike Austria and Hungary Italy was allowed to exist as an independent country once a pro German government had been installed.

ScreenSave12-3.jpg

One last campaign beckoned and the Bundeswehr was redployed to the north. A new year had beckoned and production of the new atomic weapons had increased. Massing on the corder it was time to recalim the Sudetenland, more or less a decade after the Nazi effort. While bitterly cold the campaign was expected to be a short one. The Czechs had little chance as the Bundeswehr was also deployed in the former lands of Austria and Hungary. Wittman looked forward to the upcoming battle and the "powers that be" had indicated he would be in line for a promotion. The head phones crackled"Stand down, stand down the offensive is canceled". Wondering why the men returned to barracks. The following day the newspapers had the reason.

" UNITED KINGDOM GUARANTEES CZECH INDEPENDENCE" Followed by
"USA REJOINS THEIR WARTIME ALLIANCE"

German diplomats were rushing to Prague to avert the crisis.

Months passed and in August Europe was shocked once again.

ScreenSave15.jpg

It seemed that German diplomats had been busy- and had deep pockets.

In the rest of the world peace more or les reigned apart from the Japanese/Soviet war. The federal government had transferred ownership of various obsolete ships to Japan, much to the chagrin of the Soviets. Tough luck for Stalin who still had no atomic weapons. News came in from the middle east.

ScreenSave16-1.jpg

That war should end well. The Federal government had to make some large promises to conduct no more military adventures and the navy visited New York in a goodwill gesture.

ScreenSave17-2.jpg

Sensationalist tabloids in the USA claimed that the FRG was embarking on a massve naval building program due to the fact the FRG had more modern equipment than the Americans. Such claims were of course denied. Plans were drawn up regarding a new type of carrier powered by nuclear energy but the republic had to put them on hold as there wasn't enough resources to build any. Some nice new nuclear powered icebreakers were ordered however. Vague promises were made that they were for export customers.

ScreenSave9-2.jpg

New "Icebreakers" under construction.

New recuits had also volunteered for the Bundwehr. Soviet sources also claimed that we had deployed very modern infantry equipment and were in the process up upgrading the entire army. They also claimed new Panzer prototypes were being tested. Such slanderous reports were denied. Such blatant lies to make the FRG look bad.
ScreenSave18-2.jpg

The Allies even caimed the new Luftwaffe was rapidly expanding.
ScreenSave19-3.jpg

Some new planes had been delivered but due to improving econmic conditions they were to be used to deliver mail in eastern Hungary. Which of course required new airfields to be built on the Soviet/Romania borders. It wasn't the FRG's problem Stalin didn't allow his citizens to comunicate with the world.

Erm oops yeah.

1950 was a quiet year and the Bundeswehr didn't liberate any new countries. The FRG deployed a new weapons system known as a "Intercontinental Ballistic Missile". Reports that the missle was capable of reaching the USA and eastern Russia are totally false, along with the rumour they are capable of carrying atomic warheads. The FRG government assures eastern Australia, New Zeland and various pacific islands they have nothing to fear due to a lack of range on the new ICBM- to be used for peaceful purposes only of course.

New Atomic icebreakers are also deployed with the intention of exporting them but the required papers get misplaced and they spend their time rusting in Kiel. Bureaucratic efficency at its finest. Large amounts of volunteers are also rushing to join the Bundeswehr, and large amounts of rocket orders have been placed by groups the government seems to know very little about. Experts predict the Bundeswehr as such will reach critical mass around 22 June 1951- to be used for peaceful purposes only of course.

20/6/51 Somewhere in Germany

The door opened and an officer walked in. In a bunker large maps decorated the wall. Another was spread out on a large table. Turning to the officer a man commanded "Report".

Spreading some papers out on the table he replied "Good morning gentleman here I have the latest reports". The intelligence services had been busy and the organisation had access to them via certain agents who remained loyal.

The German/Czech/Italian alliance has deployed over 160 divisions near the Soviet/Romanian/Polish border. Our useless government believes they are to hold the line against any Soviet aggression.

ScreenSave32-1.jpg

The Bundesmarine is conducting "exercises" in the Baltic with 6 divisons of marines. More divisions are available in Rostock.

ScreenSave31-1.jpg

We have nuclear powered aircraft carriers, some older carriers and 10 atomic warheads available along with over 70 flotillas of destroyers available. Several older models are deployed in the far east out of Okinawa. Large stockpiles of oil and supplies are available and we have excellent relations with the USA and UK to import more if required. Numerous ballistic and ICBMs are available for the warheads. We have reserves of around 170 thousand men.

Our intellegence estimate that the Soviets have 629 infantry divsions available and 57 armored divisons available. We don't know how reliable the reports are but its probably a converative estimate. In addition the Finns have 32 infantry divisons, Romania 6 and Bulgaria 12. We don't place to much faith in these reports as we know the Romanians have deployed more divisions than this facing us. In addition we believe the Soviets have around 3.5 million reserves.

"Thank you for your report General". As you know the Soviets backstabbed the former Reich in the back in 42 while we were at war with the west. It is time to reclaim the lands lost in the east and to liberate thepeople of eastern europe. We have located some abandoned plans from 1941. The upcoming campaign is called Operation Barbarossa.

Operation Barbarossa is scheduled to start in 2 days time. The governemnt in Bonn knows nothing but we have placed our men in the right place. The Kreigsmarine erm Bundesmarine will dominate the Baltic and support a naval landing in Konigsberg. Once they are on the beach reinforcements willbe rushed in. The Poles haven't defended their border and a few divisions will be tasked with a quick dash to Danzig. The main thrust will be through Presov.

All the armored, motorised and mechanised units are to break through and blitz through the Ukraine. Slower infantry divisons will hold the flanks and advance on Warsaw. Our elite Alpinejaegar troops will advance into Romania supported by a handful of German troops and large numbers of allied Czech and Italaina troops. Be expect Romania to colapse quicky. Such troops will them enter Bulgaria and eliminate them as well. Puppet governments allied to us will then be installed.

Once Warsaw and the surrounding area is secure Poland will be annexed to the Reich. If Finnish troops are moved to the front amphbious landings will be launched and Finland will be annexed. Port and naval carrier strikes will be ordered all along the Baltic shores. Once the Ukraine is secured, a pupet government will be installed. OUr troops have been issued with winter gear and we will be racing General winter. The capture of Moscow and Stalingrad will hopefully be accomplished before winter, and spearheads will reach Sverdlosk. The Bundeswehr will winter in the east while Leningrad is besieged. Summer 52 and the target will be Vladivstok. By then hopefully our liberated allies will be able to supply troops to the cause.but we expect the front to be very thin. Kazakstan will be liberated and a puppet government installed.

The Luftwaffe and rocket forces will need to be used extensively to achieve a break through and mop up Soviet units. Missile strikes willbe used to suppress anti air defences. All land and air units are the most modern in the world and are well trained and we should have air superiority. New airfields will be constructed in forward areas and have guards assigned to support the advance. Atomics will be used as a last resort. Any questions?

"What if the western Allies declear war on us"? a brave general pointed out. "We lose and London, New York, Washington, Moscow, Leningrad all get a radioactive tan"...........
