Man are there are lot of hoops to jump through in the Bulgarian tree. I've spend the last day with over dozen new "ironman bulgaria" saves trying to figure it out. Seems like best case it takes 2-3 years to stabilize and start whatever it is you're doing (haven't tried the facist path yet). Seems waaaaaayyyyy too long. I found myself just sitting there staring at the screen for what feels like forever just waiting for the next focus, and the next one, oh crap I need to wait for more PP for yet another decision.

I'm probably missing an optimization somewhere but I just finished my fifth game trying to get Ferdinand up with his grudges. Finally got him up by the beginning of 39 but hadn't managed to deal with the military limits yet, and Yugo is still garaunteed by Romania so attacking them leads to a two front war you can't hope to win.

The commie branch seems to suggest that you should be able to create your balkan utopia through influence rather than war (which seems like a cool idea), when I tried to focus on Albania first, they decided to cave to Italy instead, the next time when I focused on Romania first I got them over 50% commie, only to have them do some focus that dropped them below 20% again and shifted them to like 60% Demo... and rage quit :).

I'm really not seeing a good way of utilizing these options for bulgaria. Everything seems to take much too long, by the time I've got things up and running Italy and Germany will be knocking on our doors in a bout six months, certainly no time for any of the "balkans" decsions they have at the bottom of the tree.

Maybe I'm missing something, anyone else had any success with Bulgaria?

Haven't played much. I think communist Bulgaria needs some more tweaking as you get cucked HARD with the lack of military advisors and it hampers the diversity of army designs. (you lose the land doctrine one, which i think is bull as your then stuck with either air or sea)
