Hi.
I understand that having too many buildings models can be difficult for the core engine of the game, but if the same models were painted with different colors, (just like SimCity 2013), the city could look beautifully and full of different buildinds even if are just same models differently colored.

See all those identical buildings one next the other is not nice at all.

CO stated that they wanted to release the basic core of the game first, and then maybe add more varieties of buildings after release or let modders create buildings themselves. Don't forget that there's nine people in the dev team at the moment, and they're on a March release date.

13 people. But 9 for most of the development.

With STEAM workshop on day one, I expect to see a good building variety coming from the modders really fast. Even more of C:SL is as awesome as we expect it to be. People will be interested, modders from SC4 will come around and work with it. This will make this game grow and be very more popular. Maybe the studio will be able to higher more devs and be able to make it elvolve even more. The reason why I support this game and I want it to success is that I know they won't stop developping it. This is 1.0, and I am sure C:SL will evolve more and more during the next few years.

Has this been confirmed that people will be able to have their own modded buildings like SC4?

With all due respect , i disagree with your logic of "Number of people in a team". Regardless of team size we are paying for a full game right? Its not like number of people working on this are 9 and they are charging us less?

It looks like i am a big critic but with all due respect i disagree with this too.

This is a bad practice to release your game and let other people fix it for FREE? because why waste company's money

(Apologies Paradox, i am just saying what i feel)

Here's my thinking on this: Because CO is a limited size studio, they had to focus on game mechanics, not modeling. They gave us a great city engine (besides the 4x4 zone "issue" and lack of tunnels).. They really improved roads, rail, added pedestrian paths, and made road beautification (tree lined streets that can be customized etc)..

So, they focused on the things that really needed to be the foundation, and skimped on the modeling.. I am fine with it, because I know that if you were going to focus your workforce on either cosmetic stuff, or the game engine/road layout/map editing/ traffic simulation/ road placement side.

I'm glad they decided to focus on that stuff, instead of making a ton of great looking models (something I think SimCity 5 did very well)..

Anyway, I have no problem with them having the fan-base model a lot of buildings, I think it will be fun, I just hope they tell us how they would like the buildings modeled, the sizes, and amount of detail allowed.. I would like to get going designing buildings.

Nobody is fixing anything, just adding more, thats what all mods are for.

hmmm i am not sure that is true, I see lots of mods for paradox games that are aimed at "fixing" :D

Anyway I was talking about just paint in different color combinations the original models- same model with: walls red - roof brown, than walls light blue - roof cream, than walls yellow - roof light green or something like that, just as Simcity5, it would make all the city look full of different buildings and very eye candy.

Modders than will contribute to add new buldings, and this game will look stunning.

City building game is a little bit different from other types of games. This is a genre where modding is crucial.
There are millions and millions of buildings, structures out theres across hundred of countries, how can you ask the developer to handle those kind of task? It doesn't really matter how large the studio is, be it 1000 staff, it still not enough to beat the capability of public modding community. And staff need to get paid, the community don't.
All we need is a solid game foundation that people can mod to their heart content - and share it to the world. Let the modder do their part.
Modding the game will also extend it's life span by many years. I think the best example I can give you, is SimCity 4.

But as of now, there seems to be not much words about modding just yet.
Unless I am totally wrong about my perception of Cities Skyline, that it is not what I think it is... As I just discovered this game a couple days ago.

Mods can fix things too or add functionality. CIM2 had a great mod made by eis_os that allowed more assets to be used in game that were blocked to the map editor. For Train Fever he made several mods that improved functionality and FPS for the game; others remade the entire cargo system of the game. Modders can do very much - as long as the game is open enough to do so.
