A suggestion i have for this awesome game is the following :)


Let us create a "limit services to this disctrict" policy that makes it so that service vehicles can go to service only buildings within said district/area.



In conjunction with that i also would like to suggest a building option (underneath the one that says on/off) that unlocks or "ungreys out" if that policy is active, for service buildings that gives each service building the option for that building alone to disregard said policy aswell.



This would let us manage very effectively the services of our town by letting us take care of the demand for them at a local level (no more abandoned buildings next to a cemitary while its vehicles are going across the whole map into another district:rolleyes:) but also allow us to tweak said building into servicing a larger area if necessary (like garbage trucks city wide for exemple or a temporary peak in the death/crime/health rate of a specific district due to various reasons :cool:)

I definitely would like to see this. As you point out, it allows us much more control over exactly where our services operate. If I use the vast space in the map to build two separate settlements it makes sense for me to be able to keep their services separate too (or at least, for some of them).

Of course this might also require the ability to set service budgets at the building (or district) level - without that you could end up with one school serving three districts with a huge population and another serving one smaller district yet the global schools budget (determining number of places) would be divided equally between the two!

In conjuction with the policy idea, one could also have that toggle per single service building that disregards that policy so one could effectively keep services confined to their "areas" but at the same time, release service resources on a temporary basis in case it´s needed.



Example

Suppose you have 7 residential districts.

All would only be serviced by their respective buildings

But if something happened, say, a death spiral, due to demographics in one area and you have surplus capacity in the other areas, you could, go to some services buildings in the other area and "toggle" a "disregard policy button" (like the on/off switch) in just a few buildings. After the peak is over, you "retoggle" them and they go back to obeying the district limit :)

No need to create entire new building budgets and menus when a toggle button per building (follow or not this policy) and said policy is all that is needed :)

As an analogy, this would be similar to real world cases of civil services (such as civil protection and police) in dealing with "peaks" of activity such as summer tourists and what not and working outside their "district", except in this case I´m talking about death carriages and all other services :p

Alternatively, just give us a toggle on the screen for each service building that says "Local service only". Thus, they serve only their district.
