I have often wondered why in ALL city building games everything is just about instantly built. If I want to build a road...it should take time...a bridge should take a lot of time....and a big project...like an airport...should take a year...and go over budget...stuff like that I think would and to the challenge of the game..maybe most of you rather like the instant gratification versus this idea?

How the game currently is, time moves by extremely quickly, so the build times aren't too unrealistic. However I would agree that I would prefer a very slow simulation over one that goes by at lightspeed. Though I wouldn't really want to wait on roads, I would love to see my skyscrapers and large factories slowly build up from the ground.

I would like that very much too! Its more a challenge to have big projects to build over the time like a Big Bide over a River coast very much money not instant and needs it time also the construction of Skycrapers need much time and materials i would love too see this in a citybuilder but i think for CSL its too much for the beginning maybee with a mod.

Actually roads and bridges (beyond a certain minimum length) didn't build instantly in SimCity 4. They were faded out and theses little trucks and workmen progressed along the road gradually making it solid. It was mostly just a visual thing, but still. Also, neither did airports. They took a time to build.

Yes. I love it of SimCity 4. And exist one mod to make all public buildings (police station, hospital, etc...) that they need a time to build. I love slow construction. In Tropico 4 this was great also.

Yes, longer building times would be good. If an airport, lets say, took an hour or two of real time to build, it would require you to plan ahead. You would need to think about what would happen in 1/2 hours time and plop it depending on that. Planning ahead is a big thing that real life mayors have to think about.

Have game start with a small village and build from there. Having slow building times is something I wanted for a few years! Adding realism and forcing you to plan ahead.

Not just plopping a police or fire station when you get in trouble, but seeing a small rise in crime and planning a police station to slow it down

For dev point of view, it will be hard to handle multiple building timers at once (such as different speed for bridge building and different speed for road). If i have to wait hours to see my road building up slowly i will abandon the game as i wont have anything else to do until the road is finished. :)

I am not sure if the game would benefit from long waiting times. There could and should be a short building time for buildings in zones (because it looks nice) and some buildings like an airport or a harbor. But I would find it rather annoying if I had to wait for the roads or people would start complaining about missing electricity while the first power plant is in construction. I understand your point about planning ahead, but these kind of things fit better for a game that's about ressource management or survival like Banished or the Settlers. In a city builder or city simulator I like to focus on building things and to explore the interaction of all parts of my city.

Okay, maybe we don't need like really long waits, but it would be nice to see a quick build. And the road building, could also be similar to SimCity 4's road building. Quick, but it's there.
