I dont know if this is a bug, but I think so :) anyways while playing "Francia Orientalis" I have Serbia and Navarra as core provinces of my empire. I cant think of any historical proof for this. But maybe you only use it as possibilities for a permanent casus belli vs Francia Occidentalis and the East-Roman Empire. The same occurs when I play as Francia. Then I have a core province somewhere in the middle east, where I have no possibility to reach it by ship..

But this is by far the most fun I had while playing a computer game during the last months! I raise an empire as Francia and it becomes splitted (argh!) then I reclaim my "lost" as Francia Orientalis and while I am deep in French territory my empire gets splitted again  now with my empire splitted in 3 different parts with no connection between them I have to challenge Saxony and Lothringia in a war where they have 3 times as many troops as I have...
(maybe this stage of your mod is a little bit too tough)

So now while I am trying to make peace with Saxony the game crashed. But this occurs pretty often. Is it a problem of the mod or EUII in general?

Welcome to the world of trying to rule a overly vast yet politically and economically primitive and multi-ethic kingdom in the Dark ages :)

The hard truth is thatfrom the mid-9th century on to about the 11th, pretty much everything did fall apart for the Frankish Empire, then proceeded to furthur collapse for the various states formed from the Treaty of Vurdun until you got the weak fedual states of the 10th century that was ravaged by Viking, Maygars and Muslims (oh my! :D) The real challenge is to live through that and rebuild your nation :)
