Sichuan and Xinjiang named wrong way round on map

Province 1544, which starts the GC owned by China, is called Sichuan in province.csv. Its city is also called Sichuan, and this is the name of the city that appears on the province screen, and in the save file. When messaged about the province (e.g. 'there's a revolt in ...') it is called Sichuan. But the name that appears on the map is Xinjiang.

Province 1606, which starts the GC owned by Chagatai Khaganate, is called Xinjiang in province.csv. Its city is also called Xinjiang, and this is the name of the city that appears on the province screen, and in the save file. When messaged about the province it is called Xinjiang. But the name that appears on the map is Sichuan.

Confused? Not half as confused as me trying to play China. It's almost worth not annexing the Chagatai one, just to avoid even worse confusion.

I suppose you could say that the map is right, and the files etc. are all wrong - I'm not familiar enough with the geography to be absolutely certain, though I have always believed modern Szechuan to be in eastern China.

Either way, it's a bug. I've searched the bug list for it, but didn't find it - hope I haven't missed it, plenty of other people must have encountered this one.

N.B. None of this has anything to do with Sichuan Pendi, province 1557, which is a different province that happens to have part of it's name the same, but is correctly named on the map etc.

I'm surprised you haven't noticed this before, this is a very old bug. The map is wrong, the map creators made a mistake, switching the provinces, and there is no way of changing the map.

Never played China before - and when annexing I never noticed.

So is it on the bug list?

It can't be that hard for Paradox to change the map, surely.

Regardlessly, Johan has stated that the map will never change.

Fair enough. Though it has changed during the life of EU2 - stepping stones were added to one of the straits from Denmark to Sweden, at least, and I think maybe one or two more were also added.

It still should be on the bug list, to stop people like me posting unnecessary and potentially irritating bug reports.

stepping stones are not hardcoded onto the map as the names are.

I suspect as this one was so well-known no-one logged it as a formal bug, well I've done that now, Public Bug 366 . Unfortunately as mentioned it cannot ever be fixed. Thanks.

Well, if a player wants to avoid the confusion (like myself :p), (s)he can always swap the province names in province.csv and bring them in line with the map. It may not be geographically correct, but it will definately get rid of the confusion.
