I've been messing around with a race that consumes Research instead of Food.
When playing that race, the city total does not update with the "eaten" research (eg. the city produces 8 R total, and has 5 pop, it will display 8 total produced, even though the mouseover shows 5 consumed) and the total empire research does not display the research after consumption. This also affects the display of time needed to research spells/improvements. The actual gameplay seems to work correctly, massively slowing down research speed if your population is consuming most/all of your research.
