No, it's okay -- you're right that it might be due to you using an old save, but I'm asking these question to make sure...since, considering the way the system works, it really shouldn't matter if you're using an old save or not. The variable should just start at 0 in that case. So I'm trying to figure out at what point your variable could have jumped up, so I know where to start looking for a possible bug. The viceroy title shouldn't be a factor...the event which increases Imperial Decadence only takes effect upon the inheritance of an emperor-tier title (and, even then, only if it's your primary).

If there's something else you did, maybe? Wars won or lost, other decisions? Do you have more than one Emperor title? One thing I'm wondering is if you did something that dropped the variable and there's some kind of "wrap-around" effect where dropping it below 0 will actually make it go really high.

If we can't narrow it down more, I'll just have to see if anyone else experiences the same thing you have.

This smells like the problem very much to me.
Maybe something isn't checking for the varibale being zero already? I haven't played witht the new patch yet, but I guess you only need to find the thing that allows it to go below zero.

There are a number of things which can drop Imperial Decadence, but if the variable falls below 0 it gets reset to 0. That's why I'm trying to ascertain what he did during those three years -- if he, say, won some wars that reduced his Imperial Decadence, and this caused the variable to "wrap around", then maybe it's possible.

EDIT: Just tested this theory, making an empire with 1 Imperial Decadence and then winning several wars to drop it below 0 -- it never went below 0, as intended. No wrap-around occurred. So something else is responsible...if, indeed, this can be reproduced.

The More You Know:

The maximum value of a variable, as we know them in Paradox script, should be 2147483 (2.15M), after which additively increasing the value of such a variable would presumably overflow into negative numbers (starting at roughly the same magnitude but negative if a small overflow).

This is because CK2 and EU4 use a fixed-point decimal representation for user variables with an underlying 32-bit signed integer that has a fractional base of 1000. Multiplication of smaller variable limits together would also result in similar overflow. While I haven't recently confirmed this behavior, a CK2 or EU4 dev-- I forget now-- defined the fixed-point precision a few million years ago, so I am indeed informed.

In other words, I can confirm that wrap-around issues don't fit the profile of the reported problem.

Have you made some changes to how the Outremer Culture works? Otherwise I don't know what is currently going on.

Outremer hasn't changed -- it's a melting pot culture that requires a Catholic (or Catholic heresy) character of non-Arabic/Altaic/Iranian culture to be ruling over an Arabic province. There's only an event to change character culture, not province culture, but regular events that can change the province culture to that of the ruler still apply.

Really? I thought it was hard-coded not to spread locally at all. Or rather, almost all Culture-spread events need a province to originate from, and since Outremer doesn't have one normally it is De Facto hard-coded not to spread. Still doesn't explain why it took almost 200 years for it to start growing, but to each their own I guess. Thanks for the quick answer!

The pope died, and I paused. I looked at one of my vassal bishops on the Vassals submenu of my character screen, and saw his opinion of the pope was Zero. I moused over it, and at that exact moment, without displaying opinion modifiers, the game crashed. I loaded the autosave, the Pope died on the same day (July 22nd, with the autosave on July 1), and moused over again, and it crashed again! I'm attaching the autosave and a screenshot.

Can't reproduce, I'm afraid. The Pope does not die on July 22nd after several tries. Even when I console-kill the Pope, if I look at your bishop vassal that day, it does indeed say opinion is 0 (of the previous dead Pope, oddly, but that has nothing to do with the mod), but hovering over it does not crash the game...and, a day later, it shows his correct opinion of the new Pope.

I'd be curious if you have the correct checksum (any other mods installed?), but whatever the case I can't reproduce your crash without more info.

Sometimes the fabricate claim button is missing from my Chancellor. Is this a bug, or some component of the game. It seems to have nothing to do with the level or the opinion they have of me.

is the blackmail option from the diplomacy working properly? nothing seems to happen from choosing that option

As far as I know, it is. If it's not, I'd need a save, with instructions on who you're trying to blackmail.

Don't know if it's a bug or 'feature', but in the handful of games I've played from the old gods/Charlemagne starts the Carolingian/HRE some how ends up as a theocracy. While I do find it hilarious a couple of times, it gets old when the papacy is so predictable and the HRE becomes so boring. I would it came from a bishop some where getting a claim on the HRE and the claim getting pressed.

Thats a bug in the vanilla game that we tried several times to fix but was unable to. Luckly it looks like in the next vanilla patch they have fixed it with out goverment types will work.

So I launched an invasion of Alania as the Pechengs and got 100% warscore. For some reason I did not gain the duchy of Alania collapsed and instead it fragmented. The entire family that held it was killed and the county of Alania did not pass to anyone. Now the county of Alania is "empty" for lack of a better word. It kinda reminds me of the destroyed county in the GoT mod. Now every time I click on the image of the county the game crashes.

Do you have the correct checksum?

If so, the next step would be a save either before you declared war or before you achieved victory. Failing that, I at least need to know which CB you used.

I noticed it's no longer possible to pick heretic religions in the ruler designer with this mod enabled. Is this intentional? And if so, is there a way to change it?
