Assassinated all males of a Venetian family, and when the patrician dies without an heir, CTD. Every time. No matter how he dies. Reproduced at least 5 times.

Update: The patrician died after creating another heir, and the game crashes when I assassinate that heir. It seems to crash when the last remaining member of a house dies.

I experienced this too, but it's inconsistent. I've never had a CTD from any natural extinction of a house, only by murdering the last patrician via plots or assassination.

I suppose that this means that the next time I want to exterminate a patrician family for some petty misdeed against me, I'll have to console the last member's age to 100+ to avoid a crash while ensuring my goal.

Thanks for the validation. This has a significant impact on Republic DLC given one aspect is feuding families--considering one way to deal with that is to annihilate them. Can't play a Republic again until this gets fixed.

Thanks guys, you saved me a lot of trouble, and I'm not even playing a republic. Maybe this will help others too.

Some ~30 years into my game random crashes started to occur every other months, saving shortly before a crash did not always help, but surely sometimes. Crashes occured mostly on 21st of specific months (especially July), followed (by a wide margin) by the 28th. So probably something event system related. Thanks to you guys I took a shot in the dark and searched for republican great houses. Sure enough, the game produced a new republic somewhere along its way, governed by some lesser mayor at the ripe age of 77 without family. Using console, I killed every respective doge of that republic until finally someone with family was elected. After this procedure the game is running smoothly again, no crash for ~20 years already.

TL;DR: When republican bachelors are crashing your war party, kill them.

Thanks for the tip. I try to stay away from the console, but to do it your way I would get the char id of the last-remaining male in the line and use the kill command--that's what fixes it?

That's what fixed it for me, yes, but since I wanted to be sure I did it multiple times until finally some established patrician with family took over that republic.

Just adding my 2p here. This is making most games beyond 1100 unplayable for me right now, longest I've managed without the constant CTDs is to about 1220. Extremely frustrating. Having to hunt down patrician families to check their lines constantly spoils all enjoyment, and in any case is really only a temporary fix until the next line.

Here's a generic crash report, each one is very similar:

Key entries seem to be the following:

One of the Patricians is female in my Republic game. When she dies, the game crashes. I imagine if I kill her as well, the game will crash...

Should I just spawn her a bunch of male heirs?

Sure, as long as there's an heir,......... or this:
use "charinfo 1" in the terminal to find out his character id number. then use "play <char id>" to play as him, disband his retinue. switch back using your character id then use "kill <char id>" on him.

you could use the get your wife pregnant cheat on him but if your ctd is consistant within 2 years hes probably 80 or something, and youd have to kill his wife, make him marry someone new and hope he doesnt die in 9 months. and i assume the heir must be male in patrician families.

You need the Republic DLC to switch to a Republic otherwise you get Game Over.

An update would be a good idea right about now Paradox.

I have random crashes too on PC.

Can hardly play the game until the next random crash.

I asked for a patch seems it made the game worse.

Playing on PC in windowed mode seems to make it stable, havent played into 14th century yet though. Will see. Don't know if this is relevant for Mac.
Also no idea why.

No it doesn't. The only thing which makes it stable is disabling retinues for Patricians. Either you mod the game to do this by setting their retinue cap to something extremely negative or you play without Legacy of Rome enabled.

Try to refrain from posting incorrect information in future, it just causes people more problems.

How is this incorrect information ? It may be, but its my experience and i think i made this clear, just like i said i played in windowed mode on PC and don't know if this is relevant for Mac.
Geez

PS: I generaly refrain from posting, when i think it makes no sense, but this time i thought it might be helpful..or not.

Geez

Playing in window mode may relieve some other CTD causes, but it won't do anything about the patrician bug unfortunately.

I always play window mode on mac anyway as I am often 'working' and fullscreen isn't practical on a multi-monitor setup. Still crashes in the same way.

Paradox, has this critical bug been fixed? I haven't seen any mention of a fix in the latest change logs. Our Republic DLC is broken. Please fix. Thanks.
