I've released Norway from Sweden as a dominion.
Now, as far as I've understood how a dominion works, it's a basically a common foreign-policy and a common king/queen. Otherwise the countries are independant of each other.
Now, my problem, playtesting Norway is that I'm bombarded with invitations to alliances. This seems to me to be a bug if I'm right about a dominion having a common foreign policy as the "ruling" country.
As it is, a dominion can be invited to (and accept) a new alliance with other countries, which might later turn on the "ruling" country, thus leaving the dominion in an alliance with the same country as it now is in a war against.
In other words, one part of your alliance is at war with another part of your alliance, and as a dominion you should never be able to end up in such a situation.
