Naval Transports bug

I noticed a couple days ago, that the computer can build naval transports no matter what its naval tech level. i annexed a couple of one province coastal nations, in the mid 1450's or so, and discovered that they had navies of 1 warship and 2 transports (or something like that composition), naval techs of 2, and they didnt start with ANY navy at the beginning of the game.

could be a cheat for the AI, or it could be some kind of event. Does it happen with different nations?

transports seem to be available to any computer country. i have passes chinese fleets in the indian ocean with transports, when china is under lvl5 naval, and china doesnt start with any ships at all, beisde the explorers 3 warships. and most minor powers, for sure all with ports who dont start with fleets can build them. i havent kept firm track, cause it didnt dawn on me before now, but all the minors i annex have transports, Naples always has a couple, brittany builds them, ireland, etc. just start taking a close look at the minors u annex, and u'll notice it to. now this is in the GC, dont know if it happens in the age of exploration (heh, i havent played that at all, so i dont know what naval level most countries start with even :D ).

When I start up a new GC I often have transport ships. So it where when I started my present one as France although their naval tech level was only like 1/2.

So if I can have it, why can't the AI nations have it?

But of course, no one of us should have it.

Or even better: is it not a perplexing that it takes a higher tech level to build a transport ship than a complicated war ship? To me it is unbelieveable. But perhaps it is made to enhance interest in the naval tech development (already as it is, it is a little difficult to be enthusiastic about advancing the naval tech level).

Right on (to use an anachronistic expression)!!!!

Transports came first (not counting galleys) then came the cannon-toting warships.
Hopefully this could be fixed in a patch.

Nope; warships came well before ships specifically designed as troop transports.

There is no need for any particular advanced technical skill for the ability of constructing a ship that can be used for transporting people.

You can just use any normal vessel. As witnessed at Dunquerque 1940.

I don't know when then they started making "ships specifically designed as troop transports". My guess is that there has always existed such ships. If you mean something special by this concept I would be interested to know if the time really was "late medieval" as it is in EU2.

Anyhow, if you are right I don't believe the reason they did not make them earlier then the date you have in mind had something to do with their technical level. Perhaps they didn't think it was economically advisable.
