[Bug] [Linux] use of closed network connection error

I just bought EU IV on Steam and was excited because it runs natively on Linux. Unfortunately, when I start the game I get a window for a brief second and then it disappears, but the launcher process is still running. By the time I look through `ps -aux` output and kill the process, the log has been spammed with this message tens of thousands of times, with no other errors or debug info:

(timestamp) [deamon] [DEBUG] SEND: N/A error
(timestamp) [daemon] [ERROR] encoding message: write tcp 127.0.0.1:33398->127.0.0.1:11000: use of closed network connection​

Any idea what the cause of this error is, or how to fix it? I also tried running the Windows version under Proton, but it failed to install the launcher, so I don't think that's an option.

I managed to circumvent the error by directly running `dowser` in ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Europa\ Universalis\ IV/

Not that I've seen this before but it definitely looks like a networking problem in this Linux installation. Have you edited the hosts file perhaps, redirected something to 127.0.0.1?

FYI all traffic to and from api.paradoxplaza.com must get through for the launcher to work.

@AndrewT bog standard /etc/hosts. It's odd that this isn't an issue when I don't launch it via Steam. I am using a version of steam that comes packaged with all the dependencies, if that matters.

You mean not the normal Steam installation from Valve? If so, I've never come across that and don't know what difference that would make.

I'm now seeing that this might be api.paradox-interactive.com instead , or as well.
