As far as I know it only happens when the other Nations Leaders appear in your Leader pool. The leaders can get there by reorganization or be people absorbing other Nation troops by upgrading.

Till 103 I just don't use minors any more and lent troops I deposit on beaches.

I never did that. I let the Italians run their own ops. I only kept good units, liike the Alpini divs, with good leaders they lent me. I left garabaldi, etc in charge of these and used them to garrison england and the Eastern front. I never meged with italians.

Yes but did you merge lent Italians with lent Italians any extra generals will end up in your leader pool.

Lent units can also end up in your force pool do to other events such as being in combat when a nation is annexed (bug) or being in the wrong area when bitter peace event happens.

At the moment lent and controlled troops are more of a liability than asset their factories and resources far outway any extra manpower and with the possibility to corrupt your Leader pool make conquest a much better option.Very sad if you play Germany and enjoy having Axis Minors along for the ride.Hopefully 103 will address this and lots of other Minor state issues.

last game I had alot of batic /comblock allies. Slovokia, who were useless with zero org after the sudentland event, and disovment of the czech state. Hungary, who has decent troops for a minor, and Bulgaria, anso fairly decent for a minor power.

This round, I invaded and annexed Czechlosvokia, allied with Hungary and bulgaria. The hungarina and bulgy lent troops are currently on the east front garrisoning for the inevitable, beside my German divisions. Italian lent troops are on the french coast. I will be more careful not to have foreign troops in the Urals when I mash Stailin.

Well its not so much a bug as it is an overloaded USSR database.
I know for me, they are the only ones i have ever experienced the bizarre lag effects. To test, I went in and axed about 50 officers from their land corps. The problem was fixed.
p.s Yes its annoying as hell, but whoever wanted all those generals wasnt being too careful I think

NO! For christs sake! (sorry)

It happens even if you play it 'clean' with just one nations' leader. There just isn't any way around it: this bug needs fixing.

Not on topic here, but I just wanted to inform you, the Soviet list will be cut down in 1.03. The original long version will be available through me.

Hi all,
in my experience this bug happens regardless of the country you play.
I've played a few campaigns so far (Italy, UK, Germany, etc.) and the bug always arisen.

BTW I've never found out what's the bug trigger, but each time, the leader corrupting the leaders pool appeared in a north African province without any division under command and if you send even a single division there (you better have paratroopers by transport to do that) you can merge the leader with the division and workaround the bug (i.e. the leaders pool works back). At this point you might find that the "bugger leader" is cloned in the pool.
On the other side, if you try to move the "lone leader" or select to change it from the pool you'll have a CTD.

Sorry, I don't remember the name of the north African province but it's the same everytime.

Well I can't at the moment cause I'm at work but it's in the middle north, just below the first two starting from the coast. It's a two word named province. Maybe it's "Forth something", I don't recall sorry.

Oh, I forgot to say that the "lone leader unit" is hidden and not visible unless you draw a selection square, just the same way as when you select multiple units.

So the suggestion is, lower the zoom on the map, center on the middle north African zone, draw a big selection square and you should got it selected and visible.

Another way is to select any unit on the map and press either PgUp or PgDwn, until you got it.

i had the exact same problem. playing ussr and suddenly the game lagged so bad whenever i tried to select a leader that in fact it prevents me to assign leaders to my army corps.

the lone leader is maybe what i called the ghost unit in the bug report forum. a unit without a divison. odd.

my system:

p4 1.7 ghz
512mb ddr
gf4 ti4200 128mb ddr (detonator 40.72)
on board sound
dx9

i guess its not my system because everything else runs fine at top speed.

it must be the huge leader list because i had ca 300 divisions when it occured.

well i just kept on fighting bad leadership calls for more soldiers to do the job
:D

I tried Mad Max´s recipe (THX!) and it worked. After conquering Soviet Union in 1942 I also had a MAJOR lag when trying to change my German leaders. As Mad Max pointed out there was an invisible leader in the North African province of Fort Lallemad (spell?), only visible by marking the province with a square. In my case it turned out to be General Student who earlier commanded my disappeared para-unit, now leading about four ghost divisions with 0-strength. I found out that I didnt have to give him a real division in order to get rid of the problem - I just marked the whole unit and pressed "create new unit" a couple of times until all ghost divsions had disappeared. After that the leader-change lag too was gone! :D
My question is - how on earth did you discover the invisible unit, Mad Max????
