Swedish event 3229

Not sure if anyone's posted it yet, but the event in which Sweden gets to choose whether to turn catholic with Sigismund or remain protestant with Charles doesn't work too well. The AI picked Sigismund, everything went great, but Charles refused to leave. And then Gustav II Adolph came...from what I've read in the event some monarchs are supposed to be put to sleep...

I think the problem here is sleepmonarch doesn't work on a monarch already on the throne?

Try adding this line after the sleepmonarch line in event 3229:

command = { type = wakemonarch which = 06306 }

I wonder if that's sufficient to make it work.

But the sleepmonarch line is in OptionA - Charles - whereas Greebo said the AI picked OptionB - Sigismund - which has no sleepmonarch line.

I don't understand what Greebo means by "Charles refused to leave" as Sigismund should be on the throne at that point; Karl IX cannot get the throne until the next day 16 Sept 1598.

I wasn't playing either Poland nor Sweden, so I wasn't up to date with the monarchs. It looked like that: Swedish AI chose Sigismund, I checked Sweden and it had Karl IX. I waited for a bit, and after Karl came Gustav II Adolph. Sigismund never came. I don't know which numbers correspond with which monarchs, etc, but it didn't seem right to me.

My bad, reading comprehension is *hard*. :)

Okay, here's the problem... the event doesn't sleep the other monarchs. Since Karl IX gets started then, he takes over.

So, here's the solution (I think) to add the following lines to option B:

command = { type = sleepmonarch which = 06306 }
command = { type = sleepmonarch which = 06307 }
command = { type = sleepmonarch which = 06308 }
command = { type = sleepmonarch which = 06309 }
command = { type = sleepmonarch which = 06310 }
command = { type = sleepmonarch which = 06311 }
command = { type = sleepmonarch which = 06312 }
command = { type = sleepmonarch which = 06313 }

I'm unsure about the last sleepmonarch, Fredrik I. The last Catholic monarch from that line, Karl IX Filip, is supposed to die in 1742. If we sleep Fredrik I, Karl IX Filip will last until 1751, unless Sweden chooses to go with Frederik II of Denmark in 1743. However, if we don't sleep Fredrik I, Karl IX Filip will last only until 1720, and then Fredrik I will take over. But this makes Karl IX Filip's reign only 2 years long.

This could be resolved with a new alternate reign of Fredrik I in the monarchy file. Otherwise, it depends on what people think makes the most sense. Since event 3252 (the option to choose Fredrilk II of Denmark) suggests that Fredrik I is King, I suggest not sleeping monarch 06313.

I'm afraid I've never played Sweden before, so sirbruce's lecture is totally incomprehensible to me :D. As for the savegame Was the savefile request adressed to me? I'm afraid I only have a 1695 savegame, so it's quite a while after the event took place, but I can send it to you. As for pasting the history - here it is:

"September 16, 1598 : Sweden went with Sigismund is the rightful King in King Sigismund and Duke Charles. "
"September 16, 1598 : Poland became Vassals of Sweden."
"September 16, 1598 : Poland left the Military Alliance she had with Ukraine."
"September 16, 1598 : Sweden broke the Royal Marriage she had with Brandenburg."
"September 16, 1598 : Sweden converts to Catholic."

I'm afraid I don't know where to look for the monarchs...perhaps just posting the savegame will be of more us to you: savegame

In layman's terms, the events leads to two different sets of kings for Sweden. One of them is the "default" set, always on, and the other is the "sleeping" set. Choice B, which activates the "sleeping" set, doesn't deactive the "default" set, which leads to you seeing Karl on the throne after the event.

The only question with my solution to fixing the event is what to do with the last monarch of the "sleeping" vis-a-vis when he switches back over to the "default" line of monarchs.

If it helps, you don't have to kill a monarch to replace him, when a new monarch's startdate occurs the current one is just overwritten.

Are we talking past each-other? I think I already know what you're saying... you don't need to sleep the monarch A if monarch B is going to come along before monarch A's reign is up. That's not the question. The question is whether or not the sleep monarch *B*. If you don't, monarch A's reign is unusually short; if you do, monarch A's reign is unusually long.

I recommend going for the short reign of the alternate monarch, but I'm curious what the Swedish folks who worked on the event *intended*.

This is where you lose me. Either B is wakened by event so A dies as he should, or B is not wakened so A lives til C comes along. What is the problem?

>you don't need to sleep the monarch A if monarch B is going to come along before monarch A's reign is up.

Right.

>The question is whether or not the sleep monarch *B*. If you don't, monarch A's reign is unusually short; if you do, monarch A's reign is unusually long.

This is where you lose me. Either B is wakened by event so A dies as he should, or B is not wakened so A lives til C comes along. What is the problem?

The problem is B is the *default* monarch, who is never sleeped nor wakened. He will wake up at his "regular" time if the player chose one set of monarchs. If the player chose the other set of monarchs, however, he will wake up and interrupt the last of those monarchs early. We can put him to sleep, but then the alternate monarch will last longer than he should, because his end date is earlier than the default monarch than follows him. (In other words, the alternate monarchs don't go all the way until 1820.)

Per my original message, I recommend not sleeping him, since a later event refers to Frederick I as being on the throne. It just means that Karl IX Fillip's reign is rather short.

the same problem apply to swedish event 3252

option B gives you frederik II, his enddate is 1766, but in 1751 Adolf frederik rise to the throne allthough he should have been 'slept' with the event.

Yes, there's no way I can do it. Maybe you can take this offline or to another forum, then you can post the proposals here. I'd also ask you test the procedure you come up with well for the first one you tackle, then you can just apply that to the others you identify. Thanks.

the line in red was what I added in the event I wrote in my post above and it seem to do the trick.

Adolf Frederik will no longer take the throne on his startdate.

I will complete this event and wrok on the other Swedish over the next couple of hours and see if I can find any more missing sleepmonarch lines in the other countries events
