Duplicate monarchs for Aragon and Spain

EU2 UK 1.05

Castille get the event "Viva Espane" and becomes Spain. Before Spain inherits Aragon, they go to war. When the "Carlos I" event pop-up, Aragon is not Vassal of Spain anymore, so the two countries continue to exist in the game. The monarchs of Aragon then are identical to the monarchs of Spain.

Note: This is not a problem in the files, the ids are different, but the monarchs are the same (two Carlos I, one for Spain, and one for Aragon, etc, etc...).

I have check the other way around: If Aragon becomes Spain but Castille continues to exist, Castille has got a set of fictious monarchs so that they are not duplicated.

Solution (easiest): Create a set of fictious monarchs for Aragon, starting at the possibility that Castille ONLY become Spain.

How did I create this set of monarchs ?

OK, I will post the set of fictious Aragonese monarchs in a minute.

For those who wonder how I have created this set:

- For names, I took the main first names in used along the County of Barcelona and Kingdom of Aragon lineage, and I have increased the numbers . I put an asterisk after the name to show they are ahistorical fictious monarchs.

- For length of reign and statistics (DIP/ADM/MIL), I have made means between the set of neighbouring countries' monarchs so to try not to unbalance the game with very powerful monarch during time neighbours are weak, or very weak monarch at time neighbours are strong.

Final note

Notice that I did not change the beginning of the file, where "Juan II" has the "id = 04182".

This is why in the middle of my file, "Pere VIII*" (id = 04181) is followed by "Fernando V*" (id = 04183) in 1723.

OK, all done, and well done on your part (tho the values seem a bit high on average!). Have you tested this file in the game?

Yes,
but to be honest, I have not verified it is THAT well balanced, because I did not have the time to run many "hands-off" games from 1419 to 1819.

I'll suggest that someone completes a few "hands-off" games playing Aragon and Castille and re-verified that everything runs smoothly and Aragon did not swallow half of Europe during 1.06 patch testing. I don't believe it will though.

About the values being high on average, Spain, France, Portugal, even Navarra, and the fictious set of Castille monarchs do not especially have low values. As said, I have taken means between these neighbours to calculate them. As a result, whereas some countries around have sometimes lower monarch or far higher monarch, this set tends to be smoother with "good averagish monarchs" most of the time.

Also, normally, the "best" or "worst" monarchs of this set have the shortest reigns (more or less).

Can I add that I think that is a great job done?.Now I wonder if anyone with knowledge of Albania would make a list so that poor nation won't have to remain with the same king forever..........why don't I do it myself:Answer:I do not have the knowledge about Albania nor computers to take on such a task.The lack of computerknowledge is probably also the cause for my dumb questions(observations) which has been posted here.

Well yea the stats are quite high...

Average, espially for non-histiorical rulers should be 2-3. I saw only 1 ruler with 1 stat at that and it was 3.

Rulers with more than 1 stat above 6 are rare.

Generally I tend to say if its above 14 total, unless there's some special reason why, don't do it...i make a few exceptions like with my Jeane D'Arc regency (3, 9, 2 = 16 ), but you'll notice that she isn't very good in anything but military...and i only gave her a 9, which should be used sparingly as those are people who are ahead of there time, because for military tactics she was.

Well,
as said, I try to not unbalance the game and respect the fact that the AI decided to take the ahistorical choice that Aragon will continue to exist.

If I give them very poor monarchs, with Spain CB shields everywhere on their territory, they will soon disappeared in oblivion. Why bother try to keep them in the first place then ?

This is why I have made a mean between surrounding European monarchs. Europeans monarchs tends to have very good stats along the whole history however.

I begin a game with Aragon, for some test. So far I am in the 16th century, and it is quite difficult to survive with Spain at your door, no good events, no explorer, no conquistador to go to the new world... I am glad my monarch are not abysmal.

Giving them lesser stats probably would mean an AI controlled Aragon will not survived passed a few years.

Also, I am no specialist, but with a revival of a Barcelonese dynasty (this could be a cause of the survivance of "Aragon"), Barcelonesea County has a history of "good" monarchs, those should probably have good stats in CK , so here as well.

All in all, I am pretty happy with what I came up with. I'll advise you to do some test, and reports if you find Aragon gobble Europe

How about you start a new thread in the Scenario/Event folder to get this going? As far as computer knowledge goes, you don't need any; just use existing monarchs as a template and others can sort out the correct layout and syntax. The historical research is the hard bit.

Not to be greedy, but if you've gone to the effort of making a file, perhaps a little research into this Barcelonese dynasty would be a good thing?

That way you have actual monarch names and you could hopefully guess their stats to know which are "good" and which are "terrible".

After all, having good monarchs when everyone else has them is no fun. The fun comes in having good monarchs when everyone else has bad ones (Napoleon v. Everyone Else) and holding your country together when you have bad monarchs (Bloody Mary).

the first monarchs in the file (non-fictious) are the original set by Paradox and co in EU2 1.05 . I did not modify them.

That's the point: They are fictional, because there was no more Barcelonian dynasty after the last reign of Marti I. From then, they were aragonese monarchs, castillan in origin, and that's why they merge the two countries (Aragon+Castille becoming Spain). I have not stated why they wouldn't merge. But, for doing this file, I have in mind the fictious continuation of the Barcelonese dynasty, hence the names chosen.

Agreed, but then it would have unbalance the game. Something I didn't want to do in the first place, hence my choices.

Hey duds, if you are not happy with this file, make another, but we could discuss forever about it. I find a bug, I made a file to correct it, I did make choices for that file.
