Is there a fix for Bourbon Event?

I'm playing France, but I can't get beyond the Bourbon Event...the Mazzini one. The game CTDs each time I get to it; I understand it has to do with my already occupying some Piedmonte/Sardinia terriritory.

I'd like to continue playing, but don't know how to fix this. any ideas?
