Empty naval fleets

This is very odd, The AI builds these fleets which have no ships! Hamburg, for example, is littered with these fleets. They are assigned a naval leader but for some reason they don't have any ships whatsoever attached to the fleet. See this screen shot for a better description:

I have made empty fleets!

Reading about this i remembered that one time when i was playing i created an empty fleet...

So i experimented a little and it worked sometimes.

Try this:

Send a fleet on a long trip.

when the fleet is moving, click on it and "create new fleet". this will result in an empty fleet in the "real" fleets seazone, in this you send one of the ships to the "empty fleet" but order it back to your "real" fleet again. Remain in the "create new fleet" mode until the fleet has left the seazone. About 20%-30% of the time the empty fleet remains, it is clickable and can be moved.

hope this helps...

Klaus

It doesn't happen only with naval units. I see those 0-units all the time as tanks or aircraft. Sometimes they dissapear automatically, but if not, you can get rid of them by merging them with other units. Ovbiously AI doesn't realize to merge them. :D

Well, empty ground and air units could actually be valuable as scouts. :D

Sadly, empty fleets don't seem to detect anything. :(

I get this problem with minors over which I have military control. If I want to merge their units I select the whole stack click on create new units and move the units from corps to the other.

If the corps which gave all its units had a leader it does not disappear. I becomes an armoured unit with no size symbol and no unit attached, that moves extremely fast.

I can possibly move new units to the leader and it becomes a normal unit again.

I haven't tried with air or naval units but I guess it works the same way.

MY CRUISER CHANGED TO AN GHOST TRANSPORT!

I'm playing as Japan and one cruiser was left outside Truk to prevent the allies amphibing all my islands. A new zealand destroyer pulled up for a rumble, and because of bigger battles occuring elsewhere, I watched the fight only long enough to ensure that my cruiser was winning. A little later I looked at Truk again to see only one japanese transport holding "0" flotillas and no sign of the cruiser. The non-existent transport still sits there now and enemy ships regularly pass through the ghost transport. :(

I want my cruiser back. The yanks are coming (still at peace for now) and they just steamed by Japan with a 42-ship stack doing a little unhindered reconnoitering. :(

I have a screenshot of the ghost transport but it seems there's no feature to attach it here. :(

There you go :) You shouldn't have reloaded as an AI nation :p
What does that mean? Are we talking about the same thing?
Nobody has reloaded, AFAIK, the empty fleets appear mostly for the AI, that's true, but what does it have to do with reloading?

Every time you start a game, any scenario, after some weeks you'll see several empty naval fleets (and the AI is wasting their admirals on them, can be up to 20 for one country...). That's what we talk about, or am I missing something?

Sorry for correcting you. It was one of my funniest German Games and I hadn't reloaded as AI Nation. The first 0 Org Fleets appeared at a time where I havn't reloaded the Game anyway.

I find this explanation " unsatisfaying

This happened to me yesterday as Germany to a German fleet. I took a damaged fleet to Argentina's port sent them to the repair pool and was left with the fleet commander in a ghost fleet. Soory but I don't have a saved game.

Happens all the time

Happens in 1.03 and 1.03b.

Guess what when you have Romania align with you and you take military control. You get a buch of empty leaders.

Come to think of it I did get 4 or 5 ships under 1 leader and then 4 empty leaders.

So it is reoranization by the AI.

As long as we don't loose any ships that's fine.
