Anomalies, present in multiplayer but not single player

Hi,

Just got back from a LAN party with a friend, where both of us have been playing multi player for the first time. All in all it was a success, but I have noticed some weird stuff that never happened in single player, and I want to list those. For now, I put them in a single thread, so I have to explain the circumstances only once.

First, the hardware.

My system runs on an AMD XP1600+, 512 MB DDR266, GeForce 4 Ti4200, SB Audigy II, Realtek 8139 LAN, VIA KT266A chipset.

My friends system is a AMD XP2200+, 512 MB DDR333, GeForce 4 Ti4200, AC97 on-board sound, on-board LAN, VIA KT400 chipset.

Both of us are running Koch Media HoI, version 1.03b unmodified.

He was hosting the game and playing Japan, I was joining the game, as Germany.

Now for the problems.

In December 1936, Poland voted right in the elections, making it a Paternal Autocrat, and thus a target for attack :D. I went in with my army. Here two anomalies happened.

1) None of my commanders gained ANY experience at all in the course of three weeks of winter combat. In single player, under similar conditions, ALL my commanders gain experience, even skill 5 Rommel gains a few points. In the Japanese campaign against China, 6 months later, my friend's commanders ALL gained experience.

2) The weather overlay on my system failed to show any weather info. It just showed the map as a normal map. All other overlays did work as supposed. That there was indeed rain and show over Poland at the time was proven on my friend's system. His weather overlay showed all those clouds over Poland, which were not visible on my system at the time. After I annexed Poland, all of a sudden the weather overlay started working on my system.

3) The Anschluss of Austria. After this event, there were literary dozens of empty army corps present in 3 separate Austrian provinces. All were designated as 5th corps, and all were displayed as a level I panzer. These disapeared after a quit/reload of the game.

4) The same happened with the Treaty of Munich, where the Czech hand over 5 provinces. In each of those, several dozen Czech army corpses remained, all empty and all waiving the white retreat flag, but without them moving. These too, disapeared after a quit/reload.

Ok seems like you found yourself some serious MP bugs... Never saw any of this in SP before, so they have to be MP bound.
Anyone else can really reproduce these buggers?

Yes I play a regular weekly MP LAN game with 4 players and I can absolutely confirm the weather bug. Not sure about the experience bug, though we had noticed that experience was being gained at a slower rate.

Additionally on client machines, all AI controlled countries accumulate many many ghost corps (you know, the super speed unmarked armored corps...) which just sit around cluttering things up... to the point where you might see a huge stack of 40 or 50 conters in a single province.

It does not affect the game, seemingly, but it is unsightly.

The weather not being displayed correctly on the client machine is the most serious bug IMHO.

BTW... I had posted these bugs here before in this forum.

1) We are not ignoring people, Paradox is a small firm and are having a hard time doing all the things they should. New projects, debugging HOI, patching EU II

2) I will log it

Ok, I have a further update regarding these problems.

Last weekend my friend and I have continued the game, as discussed in the first post. We have progressed into late 1939, where France has declared war, so we are now seeing and handling lots of combat.

1) Appearantly my German commanders DO gain experience, it is just not communicated from the game host to the game clients. When we started the game from the stored save game, I noticed that my commanders did have experience now. And once again, during combat my commanders don't seem to gain experience. The only way to update this info for the joining players is to save/quit/restart the game.

2) Probably related to 1). During combat, the icons related to the actual combat conditions (like HQ present, day/night, rain, bunkers present, etc) don't get updated. So, if I engage in combat in night time, the entire combat is indicated as night time, even if the battle takes three weeks or even longer. Same goes for combat efficiency for both attackers and defenders. They too are permanently shown with the values that were actual when combat started. What DOES get updated, luckily, is the drop in strength and org for each division particpating in combat.

3) Ghost armies appeared immediately after loading the save game. When the save game is loaded up in single player mode, these ghost armies are not present. Strangely enough, these ghost armies were not present amongst my German units, not between my Japanese human ally (the game host), but only for the AI allies, although, given the number of level 0 tanks that are visual for the rest of the nations, I assume that some of those are ghost armies as well.
