While i agree that AA needs a significant buff I disagree with what you said because while it does seem that the allied AA is more effective than german it most definetely does not have the performance you have stated. Or anything even remotely close to shooting down "any plane in their range"

The difference you see between allied and axis AA doesn't revolve around the guns but the planes themselves. Most of the allied planes have a higher rated resiliency than the axis fighters and fighter bombers.

As I'm understanding it, there is two methods to anti air defenses: ground based and air based. Ground based AA is to deal shock and stress damage, meaning it serves as shield to make the enemy plane retreat before it drops its payload. Where as superioroity fighters are the air based AA, and are meant to kill the attacking plane. This often means having a plane or two circling in the back ready to pounce.

One other aspect I've experienced from players in this game is a consistent lack of using command groups in front line troops and doubly so with troops on the back line. This means artillery, AT crews and, to the subject, AA crews. I've noticed that placing a troop commander amongst my AA units has had a significant effect on their ability to turn back enemy planes, although this experience is from the allied perspective, and I'm interested to see the Axis side.

Like I posted in some other topic of strategy I usually just doomstack spits at German AA and obliterate them usually with no losses. If they have an 88 or two they might turn back one spit before it gets to deal the first strafe but the other AAs are useless as air defence imo and better used as support against ground units.

As SS Panzer I just had 3x 37mm anti air and 1x Flak 88 anti air. All near each other, within range of the command infantry I had boosting them.

Two planes come in, both get there weapons away (at targets within 100m of my anti air defence)
Both planes make it out.

There is no possible way that should happen, 3x Anti Air from Phase B and a Flak 88, ALL BOOSTED, and the planes not only get their payload away, but make it out.

This seems to be the common thread amongst axis experience. If, it is exactly as you say, then yes, the axis AA needs a buff or allied planes need a nerf.

There is a saying, the bomber always makes it through. I'm okay with this. If a p47 dives in and gets its rockets off, I'm fine with that. However, if there is a reasonable amount of AA and commander buff, then it should be reasonable for that plane to be shot down.

The saying the bomber always gets through, not that it makes it home.

It would help if you could screenshot the positions of your AA on the battlefield. I have seen people parking AA close to LOS blockers and wondering why they aren't shooting at anything, whereas the devs have said openly (in one of the youtube streams) that the absolute best place to put AA is in the middle of an open field with long clear lines of sight.

Both may be a problem.

If AA is supposed to supress, then the Tri-Polsten and the 4x50cal are outliers that need to be brought down.

Indeed. US armored my favorite division so far. But it feels wrong when I can supress enemy planes with one m16 for 70 points. With 2 m16 and some random transport trucks with command aura I can kill planes most of the time. For example as SS panzer division I need to have 3-4 55 points AA on half trucks, wirbelwind , commander and also some transport trucks. And effect seems like worse than with US build.

Some allied AA need less power and germans one a bit more.

The idea that AA is only supposed to suppress planes and not kill them just seems extremely silly to me.

Imagine if devs decided that anti tank guns were not supposed to kill tanks and only to supress them and tanks should kill tanks.

A plane can only be countered by two types of units - AA and other planes and the decision that aa is only meant to supress is something i dont think i will be ever able to agree.

AA is not suppose to kill plane, yet apparently WW2 close air support is some kind of precision strike weapon that can wipe out AT gun and small scout team in concealed position.

I mean, I am benefiting from this a lot with my play style but I still don't think it's fair.

I've shot down enemy planes with AAA fire, both in sp and mp games.

I have shot down enemy planes with AA aswell but it just seems underwhelming and more that you just get lucky with it. Ive reasonably often had 300-400 points worth of aa (german) fail to bring down a single plane.

All im asking is for that if i have 300 points of aa in one place and they all start shooting at the same plane and then it starts retreating over the AA while getting shot that it goes down, unless i have some extremely bad luck. Currently it seems that whenever i actually kill a plane with ground AA its the RNG jesus being charitable.
