You can't convert nations between different religious groups.
I've heard this story before; rather amusing...

I thought I read and AAR where Turkey force-converted Byzantium to Islam. Perhaps you can only do it with force, or perhaps it got fixed by a patch so cross-convertions are not allowed at all.

Sad, forcing conversion a monarch to the "enemy" religion was a very often used way to humiliate and disistabilize an enemy nation. I agree it was more often used in the Middle Ages, however. But I laughed hard seeing how the basileus of Byzantium was forced to convert to Islam.
Well, just one more question: can you convert from Catholic/Protestant/Calvinist to Orthodox and viceversa?
Force conversion is only inside a religion, between denominations. Christianity and Islam, specifically Catholicism and Sunnism, have radically different implications for their followers (not to mention beliefs) that I would get into if I weren't running late. What exactly is different religious groups, i mean islam and christianity are basicly based on the same things? We have the same god, mostly same prophets etc. The christianity-islam collision have been kinda common in history so it should be possible to cross-convert.

No, Orthodox is out of that series.
The reason it was taken out was because they couldn't convert back.

This was basically the creation of a new state, so it doesn't count as a force-convert.Originally posted by BarristerBoy
While the reasoning is sound, it's too bad that you can't force-convert to or from Orthodox. About the only example of force-converting that I at least can think of was the conquest of the Byzantien Empire by the 4th Crusade, and the creation of the Latin Empire. Since in EU terms Byzantium wasn't annexed by anyone, the only EU term for it would be a force-conversion from Orthodoxy to Catholicism.

And yes, I'm well aware this example is well outside even the EU2 time frame...

Put that opposite a catholic Russia from 1425 till 1821 and the decision is easily made ...
Harsh words from the Committee for Public Safety. So, if I were Venice, I couldn't force-convert Byz or the Greek duchy and try to diplo-annex them? It probably would be more efficient to just lef the Turks take them and then liberate them anyway, but I bemoan my loss of a chance to expand the doge's rule peacefully.Nope, Orthodox can't be forceconverted or can't forceconvert.
