As Falc noted, main batteries can not attack heavies (or the basestar for that matter). If you want to attack the heavy, you will need to move to Weapons control on Galactica first and use it to attack the Heavy. You could also move to Command and activate unmanned vipers twice to attack heavies with as well, but due to the current crisis in play, they can't hurt a Heavy as they have a -2 to all roles, and thus can't roll high enough to harm a heavy. As you can pilot a viper as Helo, you could also go to the hanger deck, hop into a viper yourself and then attack the Heavy that way.
