It may be that this is well known, but it hit me last evening in my current game and I wanted to raise it as an issue that makes no sense. I control England and have the 3 counties of York as vassals. I thought I would create the dutchie of York to ease management, gain prestige, and it is simply historical.

Well it turns out my monthly prestige gain DECREASES because I no longer get credit for the vassal counties which collectively are worth more than the the one dutchie.

This is silly. Creating vassal dukes creates more challenge (more electors, more concentration of power in vassal hands), should ease governing, and is HISTORICAL. It ought to be worth more prestige gain (the underlying counties should still count).

Just my 2 cents, but loving the game.

How much prestige do you get for creating vassal dukes? And, if this is truly spoiling your enjoyment of the game, you could always cheat yourself the extra prestige you feel is yours by right. ;)

Yeah having dukes as intermediary relays is in effect less efficient compared to directly ruling your vassals. So one could expect more prestige if you rule individual counts rather than a single duke.

Also calling someone a duke is like granting them greater autonomy and prestige compared to a count who is much more subordinate to the king.
