yah, I find the royal navy to be pretty darned dominating. I can't imagine them sitting at home. But it sounds like you had a pretty rough outing, so I understand...

well, any engagement with the japanese fleet in the pacific will usually result in a loss unless you bushwhack an unsupported transport fleet or or a couple of subs.

Besides, you'll need as many ships to defend the homeland.

On another note, the combined UK/Free French/Dutch/Australian etc....fleet kinda ran away to protect australia. It wasnt until the US got into action that they evern considered offensive operations. Even with the losses suffered at Midway, the Japanese fleet was still superior. But by then, their superiority was circumvented by Carriers....which sadly is not the case in HOI...which is more akin to 19th century naval engagements then 20th century Carrier warfare.......

In most cases, I would withdraw all my fleets to UK and wait for the yanks. On an offensive side of things..i'll only poke my head out once im sure the UK isle is secure, that means a couple of years building Med subs and DDs to supplement my supaglued 350mm pre-war dreadnoughts.....

The main problem with the UK is the fact that you have so many fronts that its hard to balance your fleet untill the US gets into the war. To stand a chance against the Italians (fleetwise) you need to have at least the same number of ships they do in the med (all packed under one leader as spliting them is suicide) - so that totals to 50-60% of your fleet - just to block the italians. The rest is definately not enough to counter the germans and japanese. I am very against putting the fleet in the port as its a waste of your best aset. What I do is concentrate on the med and around the isle - just in case the germans get any ideas and build DD as thats you best bet. Also everbody seems to say that carriers are crap - they really make a difference with the carrier doctrin and should not be underestimated.

Definately do not leave your ships in port. I have played all the axis countries in MP as well as the UK. Believe me the UK fleet is to be feared, not hidden in port.

Even with a successful initial invasion by Germany onto England, there is NO WAY they can keep the troops in supply. Germany simply cannot build a big enough navy to keep the Royal Navy away long enough to conquer the Home Island before the invasion troops wither away due to lack of supplies.

Have you ever seen what happens when the Italian fleet meets up with the UK fleet? It is not pretty. Believe me the Italians will lose badly if they choose to fight. If you pull out of the Pacific then Japan will have free reign and that could spell disaster. I don't usually try and go toe to toe with Japan but I do take part in surface raiding and make sure that the Jap navy needs to be actively supporting landings and protecting their convoys, especially the big one from Korea.

The earlier comment about India is dead on, with no UK fleet in the Pacific/Indiann Oceans it is Carte Blanche for the Japanese.

Another tactic that seems to be gaining favor is the use of Expeditionary forces to aid China.

As long as you can stay in supply this can be an effective tactic. Hong Kong makes an excellent staging base for your troops into China, with just a little help Japan will have a far tougher time taking on the Chinese.

I also like sending exp. forces to Spain, between Spain and China I can have several air and ground commanders up an entire skill level, all during peacetime!
