VIP only

It's a state permanently allied to ENG in game, not in a dominion or satellite relationship, as that would limit the foreign policy potential of IND (which is important as many of the conflicts that expanded British influence in Asia came as a result of concerns and decisions in Calcutta, not London. From Afghanistan to Burma to Tibet, the "frontier" was a concern handled in the main by policy makers in Calcutta first, deferring to London if dispute arose but generally with London supporting Calcutta's decisions (the Tibet intervention of 1904 being a famous example of where communications between London and Calcutta failed)

It makes sense for India to be setup that way...thanks for the details

Though after the crown took over the company after 1853, did it not become a colony paying tribute to the motherland? Because Britain is seriously gimped without all the natural resources India provides, and the rebel whack-a-mole in Sepoy Mutiny is just simply unbearable.

Most people think AI Britain in VIP is still too strong, not gimped at all, even with India separate. One of the reasons that we're moving to separating the dominions from direct British rule once they get responsible govt, as the British North American colonies do between 1840 and 1856 currently and the Australian colonies will get in VIP:R 0.3

As for whack-a-mole, AI India seems to have little problem keeping the revolt contained after a year, when the end of rebellion event fires reducing POP MILs significantly if MUG is defeated and no remaining rebel provinces remain.

Or are you playing Britain and making the ahistorical B-choice to fully administer India post-mutiny, if that is the case then there is a nationalism issue we are working on to fix for VIP:R 0.3

But Britain is hardly gimped in VIP by the existence of IND as a separate state. It remains a major power well into the 20th C, before being sometimes surpassed by USA, Germany and, provided it does not fall apart itself, Russia.

Found a British India seperate mod lurking about if anyone wants British India by itself without other mods?? I'm not sure if/how well it works or anything however... I have full VIP you see!

The link in that thread is dead.

OH, have you still got a stable link to the non-VIP version still?

Not necessarily. Allow me to elaborate... in my current Russia game, I went to go do the quick annexations in central Asia. Apparently, Kokand actually was hospitable, and did not "throw the Englishmen into the bug pit", or whatever it is. Anyhow, with this gesture, the result was that the UK guaranteed Kokand's independence. (Or maybe they ahistorically ended slavery... whatever)

I neglected to notice this, when I harmlessly declared war. Suddenly I'm at war with the entire commonwealth, along with France and Belgium, etc. in 1837-ish. However, it was a colonial war, naturally. Anyway, I did the annexation, but the war was still going since the UK was still standing behind it's "guarantee". But, I was determined to break up the alliance, and restore peace. Eventually, one by one, they started to see the light. When British India sued for separate peace, it effectively broke their alliance with the British crown. Suddenly they were on their own.

I'm pretty sure it was after the war ended (a few months later, the UK finally caved in), but this event came up for IND, asking... are you SUUUURE you want to go your separate ways? The AI went with the dominant choice, and said something like, "whoops! yes, of course we remain loyal to the crown!" <IND has entered a military alliance with ENG>

I just wonder what would have happened IF the computer had chosen the road less travelled for that event...

Anyway... the UK's big secret in VIP is Ceylon, AKA Sri Lanka. It's actually British, and the most of the UK's manpower comes from that island. It's a whole island, full of rather large soldier POPs. IND should attack that island, and then, like Vader, the learner would become the master...

I think that there are events that make IND force to ally with ENG if the alliance is broken?? If it breaks 3 times then IND gets inherited by ENG.

Army-wise, British India is an invincible, unstoppable force, btw. That's my observation. I don't think anyone else on the planet stands a chance against them. Only one that could compete with that kind of manpower & number of divisions would be China. But alas the teched up, well-trained regulars of the Indian army cut through the Chinese Irregular ranks like a hot knife through butter. Into Mongolia, Manchuria, etc. However far they feel like going. Years of war. IND still at 0.1% war exhaustion. Unbeatable. Here I am a Russian powerhouse, and I'm genuinely afraid of them.

Eh, they're not "unbeatable", definitively not. Although they have an amazing manpower capacity, keep in mind that less than 1% of their population is national (as IND's only culture is British), which reduces general soldier reliability a lot and their POPs only produces half their normal output, in top of not being able to convert POPs into soldiers under any circumstance (although they already start with lots of these IIRC). They can't really keep up with maintaining a juggernaut army (if modern). Of course, they're a huge pain to invade, but if I were to be a nearby power, I wouldn't be much concerned.

The AI will often not industrialize well, either. Not sure why's that.

I managed to beat the BEIC in my current Punjab/Mughalistan game. They look more fightening than they are. They do spawn British infantry units out of nothing (without British soldier pops), but if you manage to inflict heave casualties on them in the first two wars, the military capacity of the BEIC is limited because they can´t convert more soldiers.

Probably something to do with mobilization Id imagine...I think it may be a bug, Ive had similar situations with non-national POPs contributing to the manpower of the army when mobilized.

Also again, anyone got a working link to the non-VIP version British India mod? Please, pretty please.

British India turned out to be a walkover for me. I took over Burma and when they declared war on me, I retreated to forest covered mountains, which gave me a 20s to 110s advantage in efficency, and made 6 divisions wipe out 20. After a couple of attempts from their side with most of their units destroyed, it was a cakewalk to reverse the attack and move into India. They gave up pretty quickly afterwards by offering me east India.
