Firstly, I'd like to say that this question was already asked in the converter threads and I didn't see any answers. That's why I'm making a thread instead of asking again there.

Anyway, Paradox said that Britannia would convert into Great Britain but would this be the case if you were, say, an Irish Britannia? After all, it wouldn't make much sense for an Irish Empire to get use the current GB flag.

I think that they also said that the flags and name will convert over. So it will still be called Britannia and it will still have the Red Wyven flag (or a different one if you changed it). But under that it will still be Great Britain so it will have it's National Ideas and events and stuff.

Well, why does scottish-formed Great britan uses parts of English banner and has a capital in London?

Sure, the Stuart dynasty came from Scottland, but I wouldn't say that GB was formed by the scots, Scottland was the minor in the PU between England and Scottland, and its economy was really bad because of the Darien Scheme, for example, which conduct to the Union Act.

Well wouldn`t the same logic apply to Ireland, it should be even more minor to England, right?

James didn't try to rule England from Edinburgh, so it would be strange to assume that Britain would be ruled from Dublin in any such scenario. England would be the wild lion in that relationship and you'd need the royal court to be in London to keep control of it all. If you were permanently in Dublin, that leaves some ambitious little regent running England from London on your behalf. It would be like trying to rule Byzantium from Sicily instead of Constantinople. Not exactly smart.

Anyway, Britannia should convert to Great Britain. The converter is a mod generator. If you'd rather have a more Celtic flag, you can always shove one in there.

That was in a world where England were the powerful ones and there was a giant nation named England. In a world where a united Ireland conquered all the squabbling Saxon and Norse nations and ruled over them for centuries, the idea of an English nation wouldn't even be that strong at all since there wouldn't have been one before the Irish came(and no English nation after either).

Unrelated to the original question, but it would be neat if there was a dynamic historical event to encourage the union of the crowns. In EU3 the AI England pretty much always invaded Scotland, so it would be nice to be able to see the peaceful formation of Great Britain a bit more often. It could be something as simple as: if the English monarch dies without an heir and England and Scotland have a Royal marriage, then an event triggers that allows England to force a personal union with (AI) Scotland, with England as the senior partner but under the Scottish monarch (cf. Poland and Lithuania).

Something similar could be done for Castille and Aragon, though I don't really know the history there enough to speculate on what shape it should take.

Wonder if there are generic_irish National Ideas... Probably not, considering we're getting the same generic events for Italian minors and Balkan minors, but still... Possibly would be nice in the future. I'm not even really a fan of National Ideas...

Well, why does scottish-formed Great britan uses parts of English banner and has a capital in London?

Just as the english use part of the scottish banner?
Londonium is the old roman capital of the territory, thats why :p

As well as the old brythonic center, before those saxon savages came.
Or maybe camelot was further west and south of london...

I've just looked through the English/British event files, and I have to say, converting a Britannia formed from anything other than England is going to make the game nonsensical. They have tons of events and many, if not most, of them make no sense if you're playing a Scottish, Irish or Welsh country. The worst example of this is the English Civil War event chain, closely followed by all the leader and ruler names for GBR being English.

I have no doubt that there are other country/culture combos which could potentially lead to similar silliness. I really wish Paradox would clarify the exact methods countries are converted by, because the only way I can see for countries to convert sensibly is by matching cultures rather than titles.

So the only way to convert a Welsh/Irish/Scottish Empire and not get stuck with English Ideas/Religion is to deliberately not conquer England or form Britannia?

What happens if you de jure England into Wales? Still English ideas?
