gooooo brits! hahaha, thanks for the update. Well that finishes off the Japs i guess.

your amphibious landings seem to go so well, but that is of little use fighting the Bear... can you drop straight into Leningrad? Your fleet should be able to kick that Aurora back to where the sun don't shine (pun intended). That would seriously disrupt the Russian AI.

Juan_de_Marco: I strongly considered taking as many troops as I could from britain and italy and land in the mannerheim line and move south at max speed. Leningrad is not heavily defended and a 10:1 numerical advantage and heavy air support should easily overwelm the leningrad dispite its advantages. The reason I didn't was simply because it wasn't insane enough :D

Ritterkreuz: Thats always great to hear :)

New man in charge

12:00 October 29 1944.
Königsberg, Prussia
Rommel Field HQ

Rommel looked out the window.... It was snowing, he liked it when it was snowing... He liked that it was snowing all across the front, and he very much liked that no russian offensives could come in this weather. He had time. Time to find a way. A way to give him a advantage when the weather cleared and offensives could begin again. A way that would make him the attacker and not the retreater. He didn´t liked retreating. He liked to attack. He liked Blitzkrig. He like when his tanks overwelmed his enemies and forced a breach.

Rommel sighed and walked over to a table containing a overview of his troops. In total it was almost 220 divisions, or at full strengh 2,2 million troops. A millitary force that might due to german disipline, tactics and technological advantages beat the russian 3:1 numerical advantage. Unfortunately this wasn't a german army. The core was german, yes. But it numbered a mere 157 divisions. Another 60 or so were from germanys allies. Not the best troops. And it didnt help that they were equipped with 3 year old german guns. With one exception, the 4 croation divisions. They were equipped with units the poles used during her invasion. At least the most modern croatien troops were. And then there was the "ghost army" of 12 bulgarien divisions. In reality the combined strenght of it was probobly not even worth a single full strenght division. Bulgarien manpower was streched, and they preferred a army group with full strengh rather than two mediocre strengh. Rommel could understand them.

Essentially the german troops would have to make the break and the minors would fill it, and hold off the russian hordes. Somehow... And the break wasnt certain to be made. He had 9 german armoured divisions, 5 mechanised infantery, a single motorised and two german cavalry divisions. Even if completely concentrated. They would be unable to create even a small overrun attack. The overrun offensive would have to be lead by infantery. He hated it already.

But all was not black, he had a few advantages over his russian opponents. The fighter squadrons currently stationed in Finland had, like other squadrons throughout the german reich, begun to recieve modern airplanes that moved much much faster. According to Mannerheim many russian airplanes had been shot down. So he would have total airsupority over the entire front, and germanys bombers would once again be able rain their deadly payload on russian troops. If he could get his hands on enough oil that was.

His troops were also very good lead, a total of 14 german field HQ's were on the frontline. And the superbly trained commanders in those HQ would have to make the succes. And finally he's decryption team had broken many of the russian codes, and he could read them freely. A great advantage to have during a offensive, and finally german scientist were finding ways to improve on the ordinary german infantery mans equipment and training. If these changes could come in time for the offensive...... Well one could hope. But time would tell if these advantages would outweigh 4 million russian troop advantage. He hoped it, but he didn't know.

He sighed again, and then walked over to his table. It was filled with maps, tactics, reports, books and letters from everybody under the sun. He had never know what a big administrative burden commanding a entire frontline was. There was reports from every part of the front. One commander writing of a minor russian thrust. Another about a seeming russian tactical withdrawel to somewhere in the sunset and there was the many complaints from air personel. They were all the same. Complaints about hangars being filled, about the cost of hirering new security personel, explosion hazards etc. But those hangars were filling with his secret weapon, crucial his plan succes. It would likely not work without them. And the hangars would be much much more filled by the time the offensive began.

But there was also good things among the letters. One from Schultz. Rommel had not liked giving up his command in italy while it was in active operations, but with Von Undstadt transfer to Norway russia was in very bad need of a commander. And apperently Schultz had done well enough for himself. Not as good as he would have, but good enough. The troops had also accepted him, but still called him Bruce. Although no-one knew why. Attached to the letter was a picture of him, during a inspection of a armoured division.

BrucewilliswasthereOberstleutnantSc.jpg

Finally Rommel sat down on his chair and began writing a letter to Mannerheim.

12:00 October 29 1944.
Königsberg, Prussia
Rommel Field HQ

To Mannerheim, my loyal friend.

Life here on the eastern front is very cold, but i guess you´re used to that. Not that i´m complaing, this white stuff is all thats keeping millions of russians from flooding my positions. I´m very gratefull for the snow. And I have a feeling, that you too must be grateful for this white substance that cannot resist the varmth of a human body. Yet has the power to halt the advances of the russian warmachine.

I know you are anxious to know of what goes on down here, but have no fear. I shall, in contrast to my predeccessor, actually respond to your letters. ( yes I have found the rather large stack of letters you sent to Von Undstadt ).

You might have heard of the situation in the baltics, if not I shall refresh you memory. 13 Crack german divisions are stuck in Memel, surronded on the the western side by hordes of russians. The road is only free to the north or the south. But moving north will only cause them to be captured somewhere further north. Moving south is also not a good idea. Russians are already moving to cut em off, any contact could allow the russians to defeat our troops in detail. Not a good option. My predessor choose option 3. Counterattack! This I know you have not heard about, for the briefing was cut off as he was about to talk about them.

He used as many divisions as he could from Kausus, drawing more would just invite a flanking attack from the 500.000 russian troops stationed in Grodno.

Notice that dispite numerical superiority we were unable to win. Snow isn't always our friend.

memelpocket-1.jpg

And the situation worsened over the comming days as the russians began to encircle our poor divisions. And there really wasn't anything we could do about it. During the evening of the seventh october the northern part of the pocket was taken. And the southern way out is real slim now, and diminishing by every hour. They were highly likely to finally cut us off in a few days. At which time the troops would be lost.

memelpocket2-1.jpg

But sometimes faith is on your side. And one can say much, but the timing of those ship warfs. Truly perfect.

transports-1.jpg

The transports were quickly moved to memel, and the troops transported to Königsberg. We had to abandon memel, it was unholdable. Hitler has later written to me that the loss of Memel is a deep wound in the german soul. But that he was pleased with the saving of those divisions. I know he expects me to retake it during the spring offensives. I also know that I will likely be sacked if I don't. Anyway, once the troops from Memel got transported to Königsberg they were instantly attacked by russian forces moving. They were however stopped by a brave counter attack.

memelpocket3.jpg

After this, the north became very stable. The snow has settled, and has prevented any offensives. For this I am very thankful.

However, there was still opportunities in the south. And I wanted to make a final impression on the russians before we settled for winter.

There was a opportunity in the middle, but that would requite taking marsh land. Not excatly perfect terrain for fast encirclements. It also appears my predessor tried one pocket in this very spot. And failed badly. I will not suffer his mistakes. And i will not risk opening up to evil russian attacks.

middle.jpg

So I decided the attack would start in the very south. This has not seen much action for a long time, and the russians are becoming too relaxed. It was time to wake them up.

And, now I remember, this was also the reason why I borrowed you bomber planes. Hopefully you won't mind when you know what I was trying to get. Also notice the near perfect alignment of the snow. Faith must really like me.

Ismail2.jpg

The attack took ten hours to succed. From dusk till dawn. But the russians were driven off. But they were not the last, but a day later strong russian reinforcements arrived from Balta. As they were helped by the darkness it took a total of 16 hours to defeat them. Plenty of time for 2 armoured, 1 mechanized and 1 motorised division to make their escape from the pocket.

ismail3.jpg

3 Hours after defeating the reinforcements, the pocket was cut off. And we began to decimate it. Now something that wondered me was, why didn't the rest try to flee? Some might have made it. But instead they choose to stand. I though perhaps they were heroic. Fighting untill the last. I was wrong. It appeared Stalin had neglected to tell them they were being cut off. They were, very surprised to suddenly be attacked. I don't complain, the element of surprise saved many german lives.

ismail4.jpg

Dispite this advantage, it still took until the following morning to defeat them completely. 14.000 more russians sent to the prisons camp. They should learn to fear me.

They didn't. Instead they choose to advance into Zamosc. Due to my predessor I see they are quite obsessed about this place. I could try to cut them off, like Von Undstadt has done so many times. But as you can see from this picture, the cost was too great in relation to what it might bring.

Ismail5.jpg

That is.... Until this morning.... Notice who are commanding them. The best russian general. I doubt we will find him among the dead. But if he is the brightest, then surely things can only get better.

Ismail6.jpg

And it is now, with the news of five thousands experienced russian troops going into prison camps I end this letter to you. I hope you it will arrive safely to Finland, I hope it will find you safe and and sound and finally I hope that your situation has improved since your last letter.

Always your friend
Sincierly Field Marshall Rommel.

Kurt_Steiner: You gonna bet on it? Perhaps we should make a little poll. Who will reach Moscow first.

1. Rommel going east and then north. or
2. Guderian going west, west a bit more west, and finally a whole lot more west.
3. Mannerheim going south east.
4. Something unexpected..... Rebels, aliens or even capitalist....?

I honestly have no idea, could be either. But hope its number 2. That could be so funny :p

bbcrackmonkey:
*Aplies hand to face missile* Danm.... I´ve even used correct numbers until now. Ohh well.... No harm done. (lets never speak of this again..... or else i´ll do it on purpose henceforth ;) )

Leumatiello: Must say I was a bit scared myself.... those transports came in just in the nick of time. Must be the nazi karma coming back for all the goods dead they´ve done.......... Or perhaps it was just random....

Cpt Rossi: Thank you. And kudos to you and any lurker for making sense of my AAR :) I know, that it's not excatly been easy to follow. What with the changes in format, update type and I dont know what. But that will change from now on. I shall stay to one area of AARs. Comedy!!! ohh and off course gameplay. So I´ll stay to two areas. Comedy and gameplay. But what about some of the narrative updates. I kinda liked writing those. Ohh well I´ll stay to three areas. Comedy, gameplay and narrative. But what about.... no wait, I think I should shut up now :D

And now back to the western front, i´ll return to the eastern when I have a better idea of what to do :p

So whats now? V

12:00 October 12 1944.
London, Britain
Downing street 10, Hitlers easterresidens,

Hitler looked down on the few people in front of him. Guderian, in charge of britain. Ribbentorp, in charge of all that is not germany. Himmler in charge of intelligence. Eva Braun, in charge of what he wore. And top dog, no that wasn't right. A dog is a male dog.... ohh yes. Eva braun, top bitch of the troops uniforms (espacially shoes).

Hitler: So my friend Guderian... how's britain?

Guderian: Well.... to put it in one word. Invaded

Hitler: You mean as in Britain invading Britain?

Guderian: Yes sir. I know its not really good. Here´s a shot less than half a day after the last debriefing.

edin.jpg

Guderian: Some old veterens from WW1 had been unloaded from a transport ship and cut off our supply rout to the offensive in the north. Which had to be halted due to lack of oil. These veterens were no match for the armoured fist of the Third Reich. Off course. And on 1500 hour on october the 7 the troops were dispersed and our units moved in to seize control of the province again.

Hitler: So thats it? a few weirdos confused about what war we are fighting?

Guderian: Sadly not, a day later the brits landed again. This time in force.

edin2.jpg

Guderian: And I'm afraid it got worse, heres the 10 October. But as single day later.

edin3.jpg

Guderian: You can notice Abeerdeen has fallen. A convoy system now transports oil to the forces up north. We also have 2 divisions moving south to aid in the reconnection of the scotland with the rest of britain. They arrived just in time, few hours later another british unit was landed.

edin4.jpg

Guderian: The fighting was so fierce that Von Sponeck died in the fighting. This didn´t save the british and they perished but a few hours ago. But they were not the only ones to take casulties, our units has also suffered quite some damage. They will take some time to repair before they are fit to serve again. But here is Britain right now. In the north we await the next british invasion, in the south 16 divisions await transports to be ferried to the mainland once again.

edin5.jpg

Hitler: The british truly are our worst enemy....

Guderian: I can only agree, there was actually two american invasions in the same time. They landed in the british pocket in Norway, but was quickly repulsed.

edin6.jpg

Guderian: On the 11 october we lost dieppe.

Hitler: Again?.... what is this... the tenth time or something???

Guderian: It might be... the locals in Dieppe seem to get used to it. They've stopped cheering when the americans land, its hardly something new now. However, when a american collum passes a french city the locals set up shops in the middle of the road. You know, selling bread, a english-german dictonariry parlour named "So you've become a POW" and other necessaties that they need as prisoners.

I considered stopping this, but it seems to unerve the americans. So i´ve let it stay. Espacially since the french wave long breadloafs at the americans and scream "PAIN"..... I really dont know why....

Hitler: You don't need a reason.... they´re french. French people are weird. This is weird.... So I´m not surprised...

Guderian: Yes sir, we sent out the kriegsmarine to try and catch some of the transports that landed these troops. And we caught them. They lost severel ships

edin7.jpg

Guderian: However, the remaining ships fled into Dieppe harbour and managed to unload their precious cargo of 3 divisions. But not before the original division had been destroyed by our attack from the north. The attack is still going on as we speak

edin8.jpg

Guderian: Finally I ordered that our troops stationed in Portsmouth take advantage of the kriegsmarine holding the channel. And board the transports and head for the continent at full speed.

I hope that the next few hours will bring word of our troops safe passage, of dieppe being german once again. And off the casulties the americans will suffer as they´re shps try to escape to harbour. The kriegsmarine is waiting...

Kurt_Steiner: They might have bought a Time share one... hehe... ohh and thanks for me giving me a idea for the next update :)

likk9922: Glad to see you back :) Actually have a announcement I´ve kept back while you were on vaca. Due to the memorial to "the-thing-that-must-not-be-name-or-I-will-banned" in Berlin and the very creepy movie Conspiracy I just saw for the third time some time back.
Israel will be liberated, I don´t know how I´ll get to it, I don´t know how long it will take to reach it and I have absolutely no idea of how to fit it into the story. But It will be released.

Or perhaps I should release Hebrew Uganda ;)

So whats now? VI

13:00 October 12 1944.
London, Britain
Downing street 10, Hitlers easterresidens,
Hitler: So before we continue our little meeting, do we have a update about Bormanns health?

Guderian: Well... he is still in the hospital. The doctors call it "insanity induced logical brain trauma", apperently he´s the first to suffer that diagnose.

Hitler: Thats so like him, always trying to be first. Have they fixed his very impolite drooling?

Guderian: Yes... using a anti-drool device called a hankerchief

Hitler: Good good.... Now Himmler, what can you tell us of our enemies?

Himmler: Only good stuff, our enemies are all far behind is everything that is worth having, save troops, airplanes and ships.

Here´s our report from the sovjet union, as you can see they are increasing their number of men and the quality of those.

sovjet.jpg

Himmler: Our arch nemesis, United Kingdom, is as always annoying strong. They have a strong navy, a strong army and a strong airforce. And they are developing ways to make these even stronger.

uk.jpg

Himmler: Finally theres the americans, apperently stronger than the british in everything. we know this to be a lie. Espacially their navy. Remember our great victories over the americans, yes we all do. But who here can name a single british ship sunk. I can´t. I´ve talked about this with Dönitz, but he avoids the subject by talking about my daughter for hours.

Hitler: How Is your daughter?

Himmler: I don´t have a daugter.

Hitler: ohh....

USA.jpg

Himmler: You´ll also notice that they are researching something called semi-fission bomb. This apperently is some evolved form of their last major research projet. "A bomb", or "the bomb". The americans have a very "flexible" sence of grammer.

Hitler: YES, and it shall be the cause of their un-doing. muahahhahahahahahhaha

Himmler: What?

Hitler: Ohh, nothing, nothing at all. Carry on please

Himmler: Anothing thing. Our primary source on american military buildup, the movie "Rush Hour II" indicates that a hot girl can be "The bomb". So going on this the americans might be researching pretty girls

Hitler: Ohh, those stupid horny americans.... ´But we should not fall behind on research! espacially not this kind.... find someone who will be suited to reserching this kind of thing.

Himmler: Yes Hr Hitler, Mein Führer.

Guderian: Uhh uhh, that reminds me. During the liberation of London we found a insane lunatic without any sort of reality and who clearly suffered from megalomania and possibly severel other mental disorders.

He went by the name "Rudolf Hess" and insisted he knew you and requested a audience.

Hitler: Ohh Red-nose, my old right hand. I had totally forgotten about him. He can have a audience. Off course. You can go tell him right after this meeting is over with. In the mean time, Von Ribbentop hows our allies doing?

Von Ribbentorp: Overall good. The Bulgariens have used their airforce to shoot down severel enemy bombers that are levelling their country. This ended however a few days ago.

sofia.jpg

Von Ribbentorp: A bit further south the french have taken two chains of Islands off the coast of greece. They don´t seem to be advancing

TheCyclades.jpg

Von Ribbentorp: Most intresting is undoubtably the japanese. It is my great honor to declare that 10 days ago their emperor declared the end of the national holiday for national soldiers. For some its lasted 4 months. So now 300.000 japanese are marching north to help subdue to chinese. And its already helped. The chinese offensive "Try to make a offensive that looks like a long snake" due to its Feng Shui value has failed. In this photo you can see the last remnant of a chinese pocket. A hundread thousand chinese has fallen into japans prion camps. A great victory

japan.jpg

Von Ribbentorp: Finally I am honored to tell you that the japanese emperor has gone on a indifinite holiday at a summer resort created at Busan. The south vietname capitol, and has moved along with his parliment, his military leaders, their wives, children, dogs etc. etc.

Eva Braun: Ohhh sweetie, wolfie. That sounds like such a grand idea. We really should get on one as well

Hitler: Anything for you dearest. So Ribbentorp, wheres warm and sunny?

Ribbentorp: Well, theres Italy

Hitler: nahh.... its a bombed out shell.... somewhere else.

Ribbentorp: No not currently in our possesion. But theres Spain?

Hitler:Great! Ribbentorp, inform the spanish ambassador we are now in a state of war. Give me my beach house!

Von Ribbentorp, Guderian: WHAT?

Eva Braun: Ohh thanks wolfie, I knew I could trust on you. You are the best

Guderian: But sir.... SIR! We are not prepared. Our troops are far away, we cannot do a invasion right now!

Eva Braun: But I want a vacation......

Hitler: And you´ll get one. Guderian. You´re a german general. Fix it!. Don´t we have airplanes??

Guderian: But sir, just give me a few weeks. A month at most... The invasion will be over quicker that way.

Hitler: No!

Eva Braun: Actually, wolfie, I need some time. You know, to pick out outfits. Choose matching shoes, buy them if I dont have them. Pack them, find enough men to carry my shoes bags. etc.

Hitler: Off course.... Guderian, you have until Eva has packed her things. And then I want the invasion to start the following dawn. Sweetie... How long time do you think it will take?

Eva Braun: ohhh..... I´ll be quick, five minutes top.................

Himmler: You´ll also notice that they are researching something called semi-fission bomb. This apperently is some evolved form of their last major research projet. "A bomb", or "the bomb". The americans have a very "flexible" sence of grammer.

That's very nice of you, but the AAr should come first. If you can't think of a good reason to put it into the story, don't. There are quite a few memorials to it already, most more permanent and moving than the liberation of Israel in a video game. :)
But the Jews are pretty good jewlers, if you can connect that to Ms. Braun... ;)

Great AAR you have here, I just discovered it here today.

May the Spanish invasion be successful! Hitler and Eva can have a nice summer house overlooking the straits of Gibralter :D
