Prologue:

An excerpt of the history textbook Historia.

The history of the German Empire & the formation of the Global Federal Monarchy:
The Deutsches Kaiserreich was created by the unification of Germany by Prussia in the aftermath of the First Global War against the entente impériale of France, Austria and the Ottoman Empire. As an empire of 68 million people and 26 constituent territories it quickly took the leading role in European politics filling the power-vacuum left by the collapse of Austria-Hungary and the fall of Russia to Bolshevism.
However, a new challenge lay ahead the Reichs ancient foe of France was rearming under the leadership of Eugene Deloncle and his Nazi party, they restored the Bourbon monarchy (they had a disdain for the Bonaparte dynasty as they blamed emperor Louis I for their defeat in the First Global War).
Whilst the Second American Revolution and the following red scare distracted Germany, the French Third Kingdom created a great diplomatic realignment, they convinced Italy to change sides after they suffered gigantic diplomatic backslash over their invasion of Ethiopia and bound Poland to the Axis by offering them protection against the Soviet Union.
Eventually the spark of the war which drowned the whole world into bloodshed would be Dunkirk, part of France before the First Global War, the population of the region which resented Belgian rule received generous aid from Paris. One thing led to the other and after heavy crackdowns on the separatists tensions started escalating.
Eventually, on 19 April after a border incident Nazi France invaded Belgium, under the assumption that the Germans extending the Siegfried line meant they were willing to sacrifice Belgium in the name of peace, it shouldn't be necessary to mention they were wrong.
The fight was joined by the British empire and the rest of the axis, with Austria and the Netherlands being dragged into it against their will.

Poland at the time of their declaration of war on Germany, ironically the large amount of German forces at their borders were stationed there in case the Soviet Union invaded Poland.

The remaining totalitarian states of Russia, Hungary and China used the war to opportunistically expand.

In May Warsaw fell, and the entering Ostheer was greeted by cheering crowds (which totally didn't exist out of paid figurants). Poland finally saw the writing on the wall, the government under pressure from their military decided to step down and 'voluntarily' switch sides in the war.

Next to fell was Italy, but being Italians they even failed to properly switch sides. However it did force the French to pull in their remaining strategic reserve in order to pacify Italy, which greatly decreased the risk of the Brittany landings and the rest of operation overlord.

However Leon Trotsky feared that if Germany managed to recover from the war it would form an impregnable bastion against any of the USSR's attempts to export the revolution and convinced the rest of the Politburo to launch a 'preemptive' invasion on Europe. President FDR used the opportunity to 'reunite the old USA' bringing the American Socialist Union in the war. They even ended up joining with China in the war as generalissimo Chiang-Kai Check started to violently settle territorial disputes with India and Japan.

At first the Soviet manace made large inroads into Poland, but soon Germany managed to turn the tide. First they got joined by other countries in the 'Global War against Communism', then a few German mechanized division invaded Hungary via its undefended north side and finally the kaiser managed in one large propaganda effort to unite the entire nation against the Russian in a 'Great Patriotic War'.

On 19 September a motorized division managed to reach the Black Sea (from the north!), effectively turning all of West-Ukraine in one big pocket, and the following day a Polish cavalry division reached Moscow. The OHL was already sure enough of victory to start handing out territory to new regimes.

After having kicked the Bolsheviks over the Urals, Russia got under insistence of the Kaiser and Chancellor ripped into as many pieces as possible in order to prevent the country of later becoming a threat again. The vanguards of the Heer soon reached the border of China, whilst the supply situation severely worsened combat performance, the Germans managed to advance anyway as the Chinese simply hadn't enough quality troops to defend all their fronts, the drive the China heartland soon became much faster and sturdier after linking up with India (thus solving the supply problem).

In March the Italians launched their second invasion of New York, they caught the USSA command completely by surprise as they didn't expect the Italians to again try what the previous time happened to end up as a complete failure, the invading forces were helped by a large amount of Italian-Americans angry at the government for forcibly collectivizing their pizzarias. They also uncovered the first of President FDR's infamous German-American internment camps.

November 1942 saw the start of Operation Walrus designed to knock Mexico out of the war, after landing in the underdefended state of Veracruz, the Mexican capital fell after a few light skirmishes and the centralized state apparatus created by the communists collapsed.
dOXr6Qk.png

After the fall of Mexico a new front was opened against the Americans, thus hastening their downfall. After the defeat of the champions of the two evils of fascism and communism by the Allies the world was cleansed from totalitairianism (with the exception of Romania as they were allies and a few countries nobody cared about like Portugal and Chili). Soldiers from all continents returned home and put away their weapons to (hopefully) never use them again and their tanks ended up used as tractors. The USSA was broken up in multiple states to ensure that the Yankee could never again threaten the peace, ironically the different American States eventually allied themselves in the form of the American League, led by the CSA, and stood with the Japanese against the Anglo-Germans in the coming cold war over the resources of the third world.

In reaction the destruction caused by the war a large pacifist backslash emerged against extreme nationalism, which was then seen as one of the leading causes of the war, European integration was seen as the antidote. This led to the creation of the European Zollverein after the 1947 Brussels congress, the new economical community under Anglo-German leadership quickly expanded to fill all of Western and Central Europe.
During the 1950s, tensions began to show, with Britain (under prime minister Winston Churchill) seeking to limit supranational power and prevent Russia end the Ottoman Empire from joining the Zollverein.
Eventually in the 70's when a new generation already familiar with the zollverein had grown up not only could the expansion continue but the union grew into something bigger, the royal marriage between prince Edward and princess Beatrice brought again forth the idea of an Europe wide federal monarchy, originally proposed by in 1946, a new monarchical rank the Augustine Emperor (later turned into the Kaiser of Europe/the world) was created above the existing monarchies with Prince Edward as the first title holder.
In 1988 Brazil joined the empire after a marriage between a Brazilian princess and the heir to the Zollverein (this angered the American-Japanese alliance because they saw South America as being in their sphere of influence, their reaction led to the Arabian missile crisis but that is beyond the scope of this book).

Any further expansion of the empire was halted by the cold war till 2017, then something happened which nobody expected Hillary Trump became president of the CSA. In her campaign she railed against Asian immigrants stereotyping them as petty-bourgeois exploiters of good working Confederates, peddled some conspiracy theories, promised to build a wall to prevent 'rich tax-evaders' from fleeing (in typical HRT fashion she later said it was a metaphor and derided the press for taking her literally.), insinuated she might use the army to confiscate weapons ('Y'a know, the military has the biggest guns. Just saying'), praised the Portuguese communist regime even claiming there was nearly no police-brutality in Portugal because 'they haven't got any white supremacist cops', alienated the political establishment with her coarse rhetorics and accused her political opponent (Bill Clinton) of using the KKK to prevent blacks from voting for her (Whilst the KKK did harass black voters there has never been found any evidence they did it on his orders). She ended up derided in the international press as an American Chavez or a Left-wing Berlusconi, but to everyone's surprise she managed to win anyway with an unstable coalition of conspiracy theorists, disgruntled environmentalists, feminists and blacks, workers who lost a lot thanks to the changing economical situation and political-partisans who always vote for their own party.
The beginning of her term was unstable and contained a lot of diplomatic incidents with the other American states and Japan, though it could still have ended as a good term if it weren't for her assassination. At 12:30 p.m March 10, she was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald when she traveled by motorcade through Dealey Plaza. Whilst there has never been found any evidence that Oswald was part of a group it is widely believed, that he acted on the orders of the Mafia, Communists, her Vice-President, the NRA, the KKK, the Anglo-germans, the Japanese, bankers, timetravellers, aliens, Wallmart or the President of New-England. There even exist a theory she was shot by her driver. Then after her VP was sworn in, it was revealed that he secretly was a member of the CPCSA, and got removed in a military coup.
The ensuing political and diplomatic destabilization paralyzed all of North-America, Berlin and London were quick to use the oppurtunity to invite Mexico in the Zollverein, originally the Mexicans refused but that changed after they were promised a few billion Euromarks in 'development aid'.

With Mexico secure Europe was capable of extending its sphere of influence to the rest of Latin America, sometimes peacefully, sometimes by helping revolutionaries overthrow 'tyrannical' pro-Japanese governments. It took over 2 decades but eventually all of South-America was brought under control.
This was disastrous for the Japanese empire as it nearly completely cut them of from cheap third world resources, at the same time the East-Asian Co-prosperity Sphere was else being destabilized by China which started to become stronger then the other members combined and no longer being content with playing second fiddle to Japan.

In 2059 the current chancellor, Frederick Pappel, was becoming tired of the Cold War so he opened negotiations in the hope that the current situation left the Japanese no choice, in this he was wrong as they refused to swallow their pride. But chancellor Pappel didn't give up, for he feared the possibility of a nuclear incident, especially after the incident of 1997 (When in the midst of heightened tensions thanks to a large military exercise in Siberia, a Japanese satellite mistook sunlight reflecting of the Earth for an incoming group of missiles, the only reason a nuclear war didn't break out was because the officer in charge of the station quickly realized that the Zollverein would not launch a first strike with just five missiles. (had they actually intended to initiate war they'd have launched everything, in an attempt to cut the head off their enemy before it could retaliate significantly.)). He kept adding concessions and eventually promised to make China and Japan equals to Germany and Britain in the Zollverein, and offered them a few Pacific islands and a few billion Euro-Marks in 'development aid', it was just to good for the Co-prosperity to refuse.
After the treaty was made public it was immediately attacked, mostly by right-wing groups who accused the chancellor of being soft, however Pappel vehemently defended it, claiming that even preventing a chance of a single percent of an incident leading to nuclear war is worth losing 'a few small islands and a bit of money'. The treaty passed, it was decided by a single vote.

Next on the list were the various North-American states they ended up joining after the increased economical cooperation used to combat the Great Depression of 2087, basically turned them already in members in all but name.

Thus all of Earth was united under the house of Hohenzoller-Saxe-Coburg-Gotha-Romanov-Bonaparte-Osman-Aisin-Gioro, except for some 'neutral' nations like Switzerland and Czechia and the communists in Portugal but eventually they were bullied into joining the Zollverein.

However that didn't meant it was stable, the newly created world order was far from united, the populated countries complained that they were underrepresented, the rich countries complained that poor countries were mooching off their money, the poor countries in turn blamed their poverty on foreign ownership of their natural resources and industry, finally cultural differences lead to everybody accidentally insulting someone else. In order to prevent generations of work being undone and an era of international cooperation coming to an end, the political establishment needed some sort of global project to give the different nations a shared goal, for this they started to look up, into the heavens.

Chapter1: Babysteps into space
The log of Suleyman Schactman, the Turko-Confederate captain of the SMS Falke:
Today is the first time our 3 ships have left Earth with their new engines, form what I heard the engines work by somehow accessing some sort of space-time structures (the so called Hyperlanes) created by the gravity of stars. I asked how exactly those Hyperlanes were entered, but all I got was an incomprehensible analogy involving rising dough.
Anyway the important thing is finding out whether they work (Hopefully without getting killed).
Our first destination is the Sirius system because the light-spectrum analysis said, according to the eggheads, Sirius-III was the best candidate for habitability.
Maybe this will finally end all that conspirationalist nonsense on the internet about the Terran Space Agency being a cover for time-travel or kickbacks for 'helpful' politicians.
Someone suggested already starting to make blueprints for a possible colony ship but with most of the TSA's resources already devoted to asteroid mining, the chancellor of the exchequer instead decided to focus on a bureaucratic overhaul.

EgGxZrx.png

The 3 ships safely arrived in the Sirius system, putting any conspiracy theories that the space program was but a cover for wasting taxpayer money on secret orbital amusement parks for politicians to rest.
After doing a preliminary exploration of the system the fleet returned, just in time to receive the newest report from the unmanned probe sent to Alpha Centauri. Apparently suddenly some sort of strange object appeared out of nowhere and its erratic movements suggested it steered by something, the fleet was send to investigate, however when they arrived it was already gone.
J3vCpSS.png

LRwzDcA.png

3 months later a discovery was made on Mars which looked it came right out of 'Robots VS Aliens XVI', apparently Mars was used as a base by the 'Cybrex' a civilization made out of machines who hated all biological civilizations for some or other vague reason. As it was feared it might somehow be related to the strange vessel detected in Alpha Centauri, the stock index of the armaments industry went up with 101%.
Just when the first apocalyptic cults started showing up, the source of the panic was finally discredited, debris was found that indicated that the 'Alpha alien' was of biological and not mechanical origin this was further affirmed by an analysis of the original footage.
e9iLjJN.png

In the hope of finding out more about these 'space amoebas' the fleet was send to explore the near space (to the dislike of Suleyman Schachtman as he had just used his newly gained fame to finally get some groupies), first a few systems fringe-wards, then a few systems core-wards.
EuVOdGu.png

xV0K7iZ.png

Normally the development of a colony ships should already have been in prototype-stage when the expedition was over, but as a lot of preliminary blueprints were lost when somebody spilled coffee on the main-frame computer, it ended up delayed for more then a year, all recourses which were planned to be used in the project instead ended up implemented in genome-mapping.

(I added some colours to the dialogue for clarity, I originally saw Carrotguy97 do it in one of his AAR's and thought it, hopefully, was, maybe, a good idea, unless I was wrong.)

Chapter 2: Space odysseys

B0DGcpL.png

Chan Lin made a lucky discovery, an abandoned shipyard, also an indication of earlier civilizations, perhaps space is a lot more crowded then it seems. She was glad it was found, finally she would be remembered for something else then constantly complaining about Asians being underrepresented in the government.
Strange enough the facility when reactivated build ships from its own recycled machinery and chassis. Whilst it fortunately did mean it ended up costing nothing, any information which could be reverse-engineered was lost.
IzMmpeU.png

The next year ended up becoming very eventful, in the first half another type of space creature was discovered in the Grunthirst System, though the Tiyanki (named after Marco Antonelli's favorite squid, as they reminded him of her.) were a bit of a boring creature being incapable of blowing up stuff, the discovery did prove to be a great boon to science, it might even be possible to build a weapon based on its way of feeding from gas giants.
4hYsaAv.png

But that was nothing compared to what happened in November.
xNTYbJE.png

On board the ship SMS Falke Just after they entered the Edasich system:
Captain, this whole system is filled with radio messages, to much to for a natural phenomenon and its coming for multiple places
Suleyman Schactman:“Damn, hopefully it ain't the Cybrex. Well let's get a bit closer and see how they will react.
How should we respond, in case they try to hail us?
Some basic math in pluses, minuses and zeros, its standard procedure, understandably, as they surely must have computers and thus know balanced trinary.
“I'm not so sure about that, there were in our history experiments with binary computers. Those might in their case somehow end up becoming standard instead of trinary computers.
Aliens using binary computers? Are you kidding Guillaume? That sound like nonsense which you can only find in cheap Science Fiction movies.

SxDc1Cr.png

Eventually after about a month the methods of communication were refined enough to go to the next level, that of understanding their culture: What was found wasn't good, they were a bunch of religiously fundamentalist factory-workers led by some sort of god-emperor. Even worse they had an overwhelming advantage in fleet numbers, but luckily they apparently had no tech advantage despite having spend a longer time in space, as evidenced by their larger empire (This led to speculations that they must be a lot dumber then humans, though in order to avoid triggering a diplomatic incident the government did its best to hide it from them).
Though as they looked rather isolationist, it seemed still possible that friendly relations could be achieved (though the military budget was increased, just to be sure).
After formal contact was established the first thing they did was threatening to blow up the fleet if they didn't left their space immediately.
vv2nZ22.png

Relations continued to deteriorate, as the Order of Tebbaris kept making unreasonable demands related with the missionaries send to Earth (they disliked they were threated as potential spies and weren't allowed to insult everybody who didn't convert, possibly they might even have blamed their ridiculous low conversion rate on sabotage).
It soon became an open secret the Order didn't view the Zollverein as a bystander but as a competitor.
CDqM4ZT.png

So the fleet was sent to look for another civilization, which could be used as an ally against the Tebrans. Close to the border of the order was a hyperlane which went into another arm of the Milky way. It looked like the best location for a possible ally, and soon something was found in the Bera system.
8TAXWkL.png

On board the ship SMS Falke, after the most rudimentary parts of establishing contact was done:
Schachtman, heard someone knock on his door and quickly closed the game he was playing on his iMonocle to pretended he was bussy with paperwork.
Yes, you can come in.
Guillaume carrying a folder entered the captains room. (Formerly, such files were transmitted wireless, but after the SMS Falke once accidentally found itself to close to a sunstorm there have been some problems with the Wireless Network.)
Captain, this is just in, its the first analysis of the culture of these slug-creatures.”
Ah, thank you.
Suleyman, quickly took the folder most of it was interesting but trivial (Apparently the new aliens didn't saw red and yellow as separate colours but as different shades of orange, also they had no concept of marriage, its different functions instead being taken over by contracts (which could be limited in time to end automatically after the first child was born, or in some cases even be traded on the market)), then his eyes glanced on something he didn't quite understand.
Guillaume, according to this section they are a race of xenophobic tourists?! How is that supposed to be possible?
Je ne sais pas. Xenophobic merchants I can understand, they would first spit in your face for daring to be different and then they try to sell you their mother. But xenophobic tourists?
Mmh, well, I'd definetly want to go to the bottom of it, maybe Hu has made a mistake somewhere?
Wait, sir, I think I got something, maybe it could be some sort of rite of passage about conquering ones fears.
Well, maybe, I personally believe proving their courage is more probable. Or would that just be the same thing as you suggested?
I guess so.” Said Guillaume in a way wherein one could see he himself wasn't sure whether he agreed with the former or the latter.
tlxbUnb.png

In Juli, a plenipotentiary from the Welttag arrived in order to negotiate a few treaties with the Allied Gorothi Commonalities in order to build trust, despite the willingness of the Zollverein to agree to 'unequal treaties' very few of them were signed, not even an exchange of maps went through despite the deal being sweetened with a one-way research agreement. It is unknown whether it is because the Gorothi though they could get an even better deal or saw it as too good to not contain a snag or come with strings attached.

In the Welttag this was a grave disappointment for the hope gaining an equal ally, some suggested we could try buying time by paying the Tebrans of with a one-way research agreement. It wasn't very popular, some even compared it with feeding a crocodile in the hopes of being eaten as last. There also were members who threw around the possibility of becoming vassals of the Gorothi though that was barely more popular, it was even unknown whether the Gorothi would ever accept it.

YiPiGPb.png

The end of the same year saw the creation of humanities first colony on the planet Alpha Centauri II (later rechristened into Auenbach). The original plans called for the colonization of Sirius III, however due the threat of a future war the more mineral-rich but harsher planet in the closer system was chosen instead.

Chapter3: First blood
Just when it looked the strategical situation couldn't get any worse a mining-station in the Procyon system reported being under attack. It couldn't be the Tenbaris or Gorothi, because it was located on the opposite end of Zollverein space, so originally it was assumed it must have been the Cybrex, till it was found out their ship models looked to much on their own. So only, alien mimes and pirates were left.
apq1vYu.png

f3BAuUb.png

It took 3 months for the fleet to arrive by then, the pirates were already sieging their second station. Admiral Eric Sutter opened combat by the simple yet elegant strategy of, just charging headlong towards the enemy fleet whilst shooting as much proximity-nukes at them as possible, it proved quite effective (the pirates lost 3 ships, whilst the Zollverein only lost the SMS Falke), however whilst pursuing the remaining ship the fleet came to close to the pirates base-station and found itself under heavy fire. It was forced to retreat after losing another 2 ships (of one the bridge was blasted by the stations laser and the other failed to dodge a nuke).
nA2AJjH.png

WBiQQRD.png

0AAkFO9.png

Whilst the surviving ships were repairing and being upgraded with new armour on Earth, the Ministry of industry was looking for ways to increase the manpower available for Auenbach. After the programs to encourage immigration to the planet failed and just dumping all of Earths criminals and communists on the planet was deemed to dangerous (and unconstitutional). The department of engineering was tasked with looking into the possibility of creating a mechanical workforce, after initial tests the project was looking very promising.
dKXda1V.png

After one and a half year the fleet was finally deemed ready to assault the last hideout of space piracy, it took 3 months after the last hiding privateers were finally flushed out. It took so long that in the mean time an entire archaeological excavation was finished.
97617TO.png

yPuV0Lk.png

935HgrE.png

Now with the pirate traitors done away with, all of the states resources could finally be mobilized into a single goal, expansion and development, within a few decades the Tenbaris will come, the empire must be prepared, even if it means forced industrialization via Smirnov-style 5 year plans...

After a tense negotiation, Suleyman Schactman (given the position of ambassador, after barely surviving the destruction of his ship) managed to convince the Goroti to accept a deal very much like the one they rejected before. It is unknown whether they also were scared of the might of the Tenbaris or just couldn't resist our brand new robotic technology.

Indeed, currently I'm already playing ahead, I have just started researching plasmathrowers and it looks like I'll meet my third race soon.

Currently my plan exist out of expansion, till I get border friction. Then it's building a fleet ASAP (and hoping it will be enough to survive).

Chapter 4: First contact nr3
After the Copernicus space observatory detected some strange radio-signals coming from the Soeyama system which weren't there a decade ago, a fleet of 3 ships was send to investigate. Guess what they found.

It turned out to be a race of mercantile fungus-like spider-shaped creatures, they had some sort of 'drone mindset' which caused them to conform into being 'unique and equal individuals' like all other Obbhani. Unlike the previous civilizations, they seemed genuinelly interested in the Terran culture. (They were especially fascinated in how the Zollverein managed to combine its aristocratic and hierarchical roots with the idea of the state as a collective project for the benefit off all, both concepts were entirely alien to the Obbhani and were also considered complete opposites by them.)
It didn't took long for negotiations for a research agreement to start, during the negotiations it turned out that Soeyama was technologically an entire decade behind (but what could you expect from a civilization which apparently only just reached space). The Obbhani were deliberately charged less then they could be persuaded to as a way to curry favor with them.

They were also given free contact with the Gorothi, as it would have happened anyway thanks to our research agreements so there wasn't any point in trying to get them to pay money for it. The Obbhani and Gorothi immediately developed an immense dislike for each other and threatened to blow up each others ships if they ever entered their space (which thanks to the distance wouldn't happen anyway).

Whilst all these diplomatic messages were being send back and forth, Terran engineers were improving on the design of the robots based on both experience from the colonies and new research. It looks like the Zollverein will soon have the best droids in the known galaxy (if they hadn't already).

The Sirius system 2211.10.19
A small 2 person mining ship was towing an asteroid to the only mining station in the system when suddenly the copilot noticed something on its radar screen, it was huge and moved much to fast and erratic to be a natural phenomenon, when she told it to the captain he responded “Aargh, the Cybrex we are all going to die!”.
Meanwhile a wing of ships totally unlike anything ever seen by human eyes before flew by just close enough to be seen with the unboard telescope (“Why aren't they shooting at us?”). Then they crossed the whole system and suddenly disappeared.
What happened, where did they just go?
Well assuming they made some sort of jump, and are heading in the same direction they left the system, they are now underway to the Teytera System. Or possibly somewhere further edgewards like the Tebbaris territory.
Well anyway I hope we arrive in the station soon, as I need to change my pants.
Do you think it were Cybrex or something else?
From what I've seen it doesn't look at all like how Cybrex ships were speculated to look like. Plus they also didn't attack us or scouted for our other bases, so I don't think they are hostile enough to be Cybrex.

(No idea what that was supposed to be.)

After the panic ebbed away Kaiser Albrecht made a visit to Earths second colony Al-Jissa to inspect its new robotic workforce, he was greeted by cheering crowds. Later he found out to his surprise that a lot of the streets on the planet were named after communists like Martin Luther King and Angela Merkel. Apparently the local population despite existing out of political dissidents like hippies, veganists and anarchists, which went there to develop a 'new society', developed an affection to the central government (it being the only thing defending them against the many hazards from space might have got something to do with it).

For a moment it looked like if again a trace of the Cybrex was found in the Grunthirst system but it again, turned out to be a false alarm, later something else was found but it was also completely unrelated with the cybrex.

The Order was driving up their saber rattling, it was feared they noticed they were slowly losing their economical and military advantage and were preparing to attack. It was even speculated they only waited so long because they also have had problems with pirates and were also temporarily paralyzed with fear because of the mysterious passing fleet. Around the same time a program of military diversification was well underway, based around the new Bismark class which was armed with an energy siphon and a pair of plasma lances.

(This insult shocked the Ordnung obsessed conservatives in the Welttag, for how can such a capricious tyranny be more ordered then the Zollverein's lawful parliament and conscientious civil service?)

(I'm considering turning the AI agressivity higher because it doesn't really makes sense that the Tenbarris just keep doing nothing whilst I'm closing the gap with them, though that has a chance of making this AAR end up prematurely. but doesn't that add to the suspense? Any thoughts?)
