I never liked dwarves in M1. They were powerful but most quests could be beaten before you even got a level 3 palace.

Dwarves did not require a level 3 palace. They required a level 2 palace and level 3 blacksmith. Believe me, only have 3 dwarves to a guild causes problems when you need 12 for a level 3 palace and end up with 11 heroes due to this restriction.

you know.. one of the feature that I Love about M2 is ability to build both Elf and Dwarf. I fondly remember the Gnome hovel but since I can't boot my Majesty 1 game on my vista 64.. i give up on M1

Gnomes where perfect for the M1 dragon quest, since the dragons would just attack buildings that would never drop in health, thanks to the gnomes speedy repair. Heck, you used to be able to krypta the heck outa dragons, since skeletons have resistance to their attacks.

good times.

But I'm just a gnome....

Brings a smile to my face every time.

They probably didn't want to include the "slums" that gnomes lived in. With people being so keyed up over being politically correct these days, designing the art for them so you aren't called a racist would be a nightmare.

I always got the feeling gnomes actualy *enjoyed* their slumming dirty lives. As if somehow someone who doesn't smell like poo and is encrusted with dirt is the weirdo.

Honestly I'm tempted to try my hands at a fanfic in wich a gnome visits the world of Ardania from...wherever it is gnomes went and goes through the campaign meeting the various heros along the way. Each class represented by a unique character.

But then again I'm a geek.

Edit:Sadly I read on the website there is little chance for gnomes in this game, but I'm still hopeful. Maby I should put a poll up and see what people think.

Bring back the Gnomes

I used to think they were worthless too . . . until the day I finally did Valley of the Serpents. At some point during that win I noticed that one of my little gnomes had managed to level itself somewhere into the twenties and was soundly trouncing medusas at will! LOL and if you ever built fairgrounds and payed much attention you often saw high level gnomes exiting with their tournament medals. They had a very real value in Majesty1/Gold.

I actually still have my copy and started playing it right before the release of M2.

They were okay. Sometimes I would use them. Sometimes not. I think what was important about them is they added another option, another route to go, hey sometimes you can have gnomes, sometimes dwarves, sometimes elves...depends on what style you wanted to go with. So I support this thread and support bringing them back, but it's not as I will use them all the time, just I like having more choices.

Of course with Majesty 2 taking away choices, allowing you to have all temples/races at once without having to think, bringing gnomes back would probably have to be done with reworking the class/race system, making it like M1 and northern expansion to make some things exclusive of others.

Gnomes were always both mine and my wife's favorite units. They had fantastically cheesy voice acting. "But I was just a Gnooooooome...." ranks up there as one of the most memetic things ever to come out of a video game.

I was also particularly fond of their ability to get you a quick start on some maps. Balanced of course by your inability to get super-towers or a hardcore economy from Dwarves or Elves.

I was very very disappointed when I learned there were no gnomes (Or Cultists of Fervus, who were also greatly entertaining) in the new game.
