Well, they(along with the Goblins) have a hell of a lot of digging to do, and there's no telling how many survived that mess to begin with. Read the manual to understand where they are now, then wait. Patience is a virtue, you know?

Hmmm I never new gnomes were so popular I hated them so much (because you couldnt get dwarfs with them) that I actually put attack flags on thier homes in an attempt to get rid of them (which failed horribly)

Right but as soon as you got enough heroes to handle the minotaurs, bye bye gnomes

Bah, gnomes never stopped being useful. With gnomes you had most of your buildings done within a few seconds, and if you decided to set up trade routes gnomes were one of the few things that could keep trolls from destroying the tower and trading post. You may ask what to do with them once everything is built but honestly by then your so set up with other heros that I really can't see the point in getting rid of gnomes just for a couple of level 1 dwarves...and I suppose I can see the point of elves if you have money troubles, but honestly gnomes can just build those trading posts and a new market place to take care of any money troubles you have.

Its not just a couple of Dwarves but a couple of Dwarves and Ballista Towers which are always useful, And I don't really care to see gnomes cluttering my graveyard in M2. If they were to be enemies and I could slaughter them by the dozen, that I would enjoy.

Nah. At the start, they're fast repairers. At high levels, they repair like Dwarves-each 'Hit' gives a lot of HP back to the building. I find them solid enough. Not really combat heroes, but that's not their purpose. Your town will never be better kept up. The issue I always had with dwarves is they showed up too late in the game to be really useful, even with Ballista Towers as a gift.

Still, they're bound to be in DLC at some point. It's only been 9-10 days since the game was released.(Wow....so much discussion, good and bad, in 10 days....)

I rarely played a mission without gnomes in M1, and after I got them, I never tore down their buildings - I've seen elves and dwarves only a few times, and never regretted it ;-) gnomes were just amazing. Its just lovable when a high-level gnome start fighting with monsters (i.e. a sewer rat) and wins.. (after alot of struggle).

I still maintain that gnome hovels should act like sewers, except on your side.

A few gnomes about the strength of a giant rat, a single 'champion' gnome around the strength of a warrior apprentice, and maybe spawn a feral dog or wolf against you just to be a pain in the ass. Acts kinda like a Dwarven tower, but less explosive balistas and more guards.

I can't see them getting their building abilities back, peasants now live in their hovels rather than the palace, so they are now on scene faster and in larger numbers, which were the gnomes main (only?) advantages.

Well I think, that gnomes was, like rogues, best in starting the economy. They were fast, they could kill enemies (5 gnomes attacking minotaur, while others repairing building minotaur is attacking and when minotaurus damage gnome, he just run to hide and other gnome take his place), buy potions, better dagger etc. and with them you may be shure, that guard tower would be realy stone (and iron with guards) wall against tons of enemies.

Gnomes were awesome.

The only problem was if you got them you couldn't get Elves (and their $) and Dwarves (and their towers).

Same with Krolm. Barbarians are awesome, but not awesome enough to sacrifice ALL the other temple heroes.

gnomes didn't just add to a towns ability to build, but in it's defence as well. they'd run head long into a fight with any monsters that happened to wonder into town, when other "beter" heros didn't see fit to raise an eyebrow to it...... all elves ever did was distract all the heros with a gambling hall, and all dwarves ever did was walk around slowly - because by the time they got somewhere the job was already done by someone else - you can spend an entire lifetime playing M1 without ever having a real neede for their towers - regular guard towers and a hand full of gnomes was/is all you ever need.
