I dont know about everyone else but i miss being able to choose a type of star pattern and then setting how many planets and such are in my map. Dunno if this has been mentioned before but i truely hope Kerberos plans to bring this back, out of all the maps i find some designs i like but they just dont have the amount of systems i want. My rooomate and i used to chose clusters on prime, crank it up the max planets and push the distance between them out to max and the games would take us weeks to play. I want that back please.

Ooooh i must find....but this dosnt matter, my post is about putting it into the game so we dont have to use mods. Sots prime it was nice and simple and effective and made our games never the same.

Thanks for telling me bout the mods, that will tide me over for now.

Totally agree, it should be in the main game. It was one of the best things about SotS and sorely missed.

the devs have stated the reason they didn't do this was because some game systems (Terrain being the big culprit here.) Don't work right when randomly generated, they'd love to do it, but they can't yet find a fix, with everything else they have to work on right now, it will be unlikely to find it's way into the base game, but maybe into an expansion.

this is an issue mainly because pretty much every feature of the game is tied back to terrain somehow, but I don't know the details.

yah this is big turn off to me to game no custom map generation and abilty to control map the game just has defualt created maps with no randomness to them at all iv played the big disc 10 times now and its always same starting location and same phase lans period i dont care what any one says all maps to me seem to be static 100%

to me that dosnt count as a random map, and i always play as human so pretty much there is no randomness to maps, I almost swear that even plants are same in each system each time, at least thats what it seems might be worng pretty much i get feeling im playing a senario map, I like disc layout style i just wish i had abilty in game to custmiz it or make it completly random lay out and more then 8 players be nice but i know thats hardcoded just like i can not pick to have every one start out with just one planet any more becuae that was hard coded into game also.

in these types games no one ever complains about to much randomness and exploration needing to be done thats main enjoyment to these games, and some of these complaints about wanting more randomness was talked about in frist sword of the stars people wanted more customization to maps more players more random maps less hard coded maps but they decide to go back wards and actully make it less custmizable and less random then it was in frist one be honest i completly agree with angry joe show when he complains about this stuff in game also and tht game feels like half game that frist sword of the stars was.

I know devlopers talk about complaints going down about game but be honest thats just becuase most people like my self have given up almost 100% on this game and series and are now waiting for endless space to come out.

in mean time ill play ethere galatic civlization by my self or ill play more sword of the stars 1 with my friends.

yea, the last I heard they still hadn't worked out a way to generate terrain and its hooks without causing AI/Diplomacy issues. Once they have time work on things other than the "all clear" we should see something.

what I don't get is when you tell people it can't be done because it would break the game, they Still don't care and go on complaining instead of saying "Oh, oh well, would of been nice, maybe later they can fix the AI or ____ problem that makes it impossible."

Well Alex it can be done without breaking the game, how do we know, cause a modder did it. Yes it makes maps on the outside fo the game but they are fully playable and they have no troubles with diplomacy and AI etc cause im playing one right now. A very very big one i might add. There are node lines and independant systems and everything in an original map. So it can be done so if Kerberos turned around and said it cant be done then their either A: just flat out lying or B: cant be bothered doing it at the moment.

It wouldnt take that much to incorporate it into the main map generation system, hell they could use the code that the modder made with his permission.

We are all just saying that complete randomization of maps is what made Sots Prime so succesfull and its a waste that such a simple yet critical feature of the series is left out thats all. They should really consider this a priority cause it looks as though a lot of people want it.

You know the AI is using the terrain properly how?

Also, they didn't say it wasn't possible. They said they don't currently have a method for doing it, and that they won't waste resources trying until the game is actually done. It might even end up being a feature of the custom map tool they will be releasing. For now let's allow them to concentrate on getting the game working right.

I for one really don't care about terrain. I'd much rather random map generation.

For every step SOTS 2 seems to take forward, it takes two back. I'm hoping a lot of this stuff ends up in there eventually.

Kerberos really needs to pay attention the phrase "If it ain't broke, why fix it". They had a fantastic game in SOTS 1, and with the new battle engine and some tweaks to the existing SOTS 1 strategic game, SOTS 2 would have been much better (and easier to develop).

I don't want politics and all that rubbish implemented so-so. I didnt want admirals or RPG elements. I dont want space terrain. I don't play SOTS for that. But ah well.

Do you care about AI? if you do then you care about terrain. The AI uses it to make advanced decisions on the strategic field.
Right now Kerb doesn't have a way to generate maps with a properly matched terrain field, thus no official generated maps.

I didn't have much of a problem with the strategic AI in SOTS 1.

I'm going to be honest with you and say I really don't think the strategic game in SOTS 2 is going to be as good as the strategic game in SOTS 1. It tries to do too much and masters none of it. It will take years for it get to a decent level, because we are coming up to nearly 5-6 months after release and we are still in a pre-alpha state.

I don't think it fits together well and I fear the only way to really get it working properly would to throw it out and start again, with the UI and user experience as the main focus. But that's never going to happen. There are too many screens, too much micromanagement and clicking, and too many awkward ways of doing things. What happened to contextual right click menus and such?

They have made an amazing combat engine but there are many features in the strategic game I could have done without, and would have happily paid for them later down the track as DLC.

Er... what?
Sots 2 is a new game, like literally. New engine, no recycled code. The strategic AI works fundamentally differently than Prime. AI that we haven't really seen yet considering its been hobbled.
The UI generally has less micromanagement that Prime, especially when you get to late game, and the devs have been saying for nearly 6 months that the game will receive significant UI polish once feature complete is hit.
