Right now, in HOI2 - the Soviet Union just sits there and stock piles massive resources and never has to trade with anyone for the first 4 years. In HOI 1, as the SU, you needed to trade for rubber. (Or go out there and forcefully take it)
soviet union was always resource independent (so does south africa)
if it wasn't like you say then after the revolution (the whole '20) when they were embargoed and isolated from everyone they would certainly fall
and that did not happen

maybe we should ad food supply?
the lack of supplies decreses combat capability yes?
then lack of food would decrese morale and increase dissent

Unfortunately, I think this disucssion overlooks the fact that the first screenie posted by Johan appears to show only the same four resources from HOI2. I doubt he would have posted it unless he had settled this questiona already. I too would have liked to have seen an additional resource put in this game, but it seems that won't happen.

It may be decided already, but on the other hand it may not.
Look at the first alpha-screens from any Paradox game and you will see that the interface in most cases are very diferent from the gold-version.

US Tire Rationing continued until December 1946

US Tire Rationing continued until December 1946. Though US synthetic rubber production took off after America's entry into WW2 (with over 50 plants in the USA by 1944), I would think that the amount of tires that the military required constantly increased - new trucks, planes and ships all required rubber to construct, and as the numbers of vehicles/aircraft/etc. increased, the amount of tires required to keep existing equipment operational probably increased as much as production. I doubt that production would have increased beyond the minimum needed by the war machine and war-time economy as other sectors in the military-industrial complex would have been better served other increases in production (ie - continued rationing until past war's end).

Personally, I'd love to have an economic system that modeled the demands and supplies of all materials that were needed by all warring countries, as long as at least some of the participants experienced shortages in them (a la Vicky, perhaps...).

That, or some kickass vapo-death ray...

What you say may be true with respect to the UI, graphics and map details, but in my experience they don't usually betray details about gameplay unless they're prepared to say those elements will be part of the game.
But we'll see . . . .

Coal can be storred .... energy cannot.... not that efficiently anyway.

Yes it does kind of violate what would happen on a market, if there was that much oil and coal laying around the price would drop and it would be purchased. I think the amount of stockpiles you can have should vary with the free market/planned economy slider. The US has huge stockpiles of many things yes, but even a semi-free market like the US can only get away with stockpiling so much before the people got pissed at rising prices and a huge stockpile that could solve the problem.

You aren't storing the actual 'energy', just the stuff used to make energy. Coal wasn't the only thing used for making energy (although a big part of it). In case you were needing an explanation
