I miss thoose building. Converting energy to mineral are valuable to me. Especially distrct crisis, and you have too much building slot.

And please dont argue abput realism that energy cant converted to matter. We have space dragon here.

I was surprised that this building was removed. Such a great thing for improving lategame economy of tall empires, especially now when you can't just build one more mine, (Of course there is a matter decompressor, but you don't always have a blackhole in your borders.)

It would be a great thing to have if you find yourself in my last game situation: utter lack of mining districts on habitable planets. Energy and food was no issue, so I wanted the matter engine resource replicator so badly, didn't know it was removed:(

I suspect it was removed because then it would be too easy to convert every single planet to an ecumenopolis.
-> Get food from magical livestock-pops or hydroponics farms
-> Get minerals from matter replicator
-> Get energy from trade value

You wouldn't need a single resource district anywhere.


...Of course you can still convert every single planet to an ecumenopolis anyway by just *buying* your minerals from the market, but not having the matter replicator does make it a little bit harder.

I certainly hope to see the comeback of old favorites. There are many things I miss that gave you empire wide bonuses and made you independent in the endgame.

And it's a shame they got removed, as they would be useful even now. Like bigger resource silos, specialized science labs or the already mentioned replicators. Hopefully they'll come back to us.

Galactic market sucks.

It inflated easily.

Also robot pop can turn food into energy. By using building slot.

The problem is that the market has literally infinite resources and is instant.

When trader enclaves were nerfed in 2.0 it was for this exact reason. So I agree with you, the current galactic market sucks - for being far too good. It should be something used to bridge a resource shortage and to exchange galactic wide trade contracts between empires, not as universal instant converter for infinite (even rare) resources.

I agree. It's pretty much impossible to generate enough minerals late in the game. Even in a wide empire you'll be hard pressed to get over 1000 minerals from mining stations. A world with 10 mining districts can't produce much more than 200 monthly minerals.

Mineral usage gets enormous late game. An industrial/forge world ecumenopolis will require over 1000 minerals. A couple thousand pops can easily cost over 1000 minerals worth of consumer goods. It gets to the point when even the black hole miner thingamajig produces an underwhelming amount of minerals. As for the market, when you start importing hundreds of minerals a month the price skyrockets. This is especially true with the recent patches. All the resources cost a shit ton of energy now. Even ignoring the market, in my game food and minerals cost over 3 EC, alloys are going for over 10. I don't see what the problem is with a very late game building that essentially lets you lock in monthly mineral imports at a price of 1.67 EC without the flexibility of the market.

So... correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like we were promised complex economic system, and instead got yet another "we require more minerals", just with more micromanagement. Nail in the coffin is, you can't even get enough of them as tall empire.

This. It's like the market in Age of Empires 2. So useful it almost feels like cheating ;) . Aldo great for game flow, as you can just buy a resource you need to keep expanding, rahther than sit and wait.

-that we were promised complex economic system;
-that instead we got yet another "we require more minerals";
-that new system requires even more micro that the old one;
-or that you can't get enough minerals as tall empire (in case that wasn't obvious, I meant in late game, or even midgame if Rngesus curses you with low mining districts)?

I think if trade market are bit more realistic, we can have resource replicator back. If items available at trade market are not infinite, only available if other empires have sold something there.

Like Endless Space 2 Market.

But to sell something, you need to buy something from someone other. And for you to buy that something, someone else would have had to sell that something first... how would it work without market itself being market player with some(initial) amount of resources which will have to come out of thin air?

I think there are two problems to solve.

One is the market and the way it works, but another the overall weak economy of even advanced wide empires, which makes an instant and infinite resource converter necessary. If properly managed and well-built empires wouldn't constantly need the market to just survive (AI empires even more so), the market could become a great tool for bridging spontaneous shortages, like rebuilding a few ships or to balance out a blockaded planet etc.

That the economy became more complex is a good thing, but it shouldn't be so much of a constant struggle. You know something's not right when even a Dyson Sphere or a Matter Decompressor can't keep up with your costs.
