Just wondering if Brigades are made up of just one infantry/tank unit or three? Also, can you attach support companies to a brigade? Lastly, can you take brigades and merge them to create divisions like we have in past HOI games?

Have seen divisional organizations, but have not seen in the game play videos anyone editting a brigade.

Brigades are made up of battalions. One tank battalion is 60 tanks.
For example the starting German infantry division is 3 brigades, each with 3 infantry battallions. You can edit that Infantry division template by spending army experience earned in the game.

The building blocks of a hoi4 division are the battalions. One brigade was roughtly 3-5 battalions so you can create a weaker division template in the game and call them XY brigade.

Yes.

Lastly, can you take brigades and merge them to create divisions like we have in past HOI games?

I don't think you can, but you can upgrade a brigade sized template to a full division size.

As you can see max 5 Battallion, regardles of support or not.
Battalions will be locked by type. If the first is foot Infanterie, you can only add another (foot)? Infanterie, SF (Marines, Para etc.) or a type of Artillerie (Arty, AT guns or AA guns). If the first one is a tank, only other tanks can be added or one of the artillerie one (+ self propelled).

as far as i know your not locked so you can have 2 brigades of infantry and then the third brigade armor, in the WWW streams he altered the compositions of the brigades by mixing up units in them, so i dont think your locked as much as you think

Yes, you can mix different brigades/regiments in a division. However, you cannot mix infantry and armor battalions within the same brigade/regiment, which is what G-sus was saying.

The support battalions (the ones shown on the right side in the picture) can only be placed in the leftmost column (Support). And a division can have only one of each type. (So not 2x Eng or 3x Signal)
Only Artillerie (AT / AA) can also be a combat battallion and placed in one of the brigades. They should not be limited.

The difference of support and combat artillerie is, that support will be towed by the division and therefore gives almost no penalty for speed or terain. (support can also be airdroped, while combat one should not)

The "division held" assets are at the call of the division commander and tend to be heavier units. An artillery unit attached directly to a brigade (with the line infantry) would be on call to the regimental/brigade commander for support of an attack. The heavier division level units would be "requested" by lower units but the release is done at the division level.

Thanks for the replies. So, in theory you could design a Tiger Brigade based on the German Tiger Battalion. Not sure that would be the best use for it though in game.

Not sure if we have the same issues with supply, but brigades would be a nice option in Finland or Asia.

In my research, a battalion of tanks was usually 42... 3 companies of 13 (platoon of 4, 3 platoons, plus company CO tank), battalion XO tank, battalion CO tank and battalion senior NCO tank... but that may change.

I read the left line as DIVISION level assets... a field hospital would be at the division level, not regimental/brigade, division artillery, division heavy anti-tank, etc.
