Art, AA, and AT have speed cap effects on units, shouldn't be grouped with SP ones.
Speed caps are on individual brigade models not a hardcoded all brigade type thing.
If Gliders are grouped with Engineer, then land units with Eng allowed will also have Gliders allowed (not possible), while Paratroopers would be able to have Engineer brigade too (again, not right at all).
Hmm other problems... Well you should be able to allow units (and possibly single unit models) to have specific brigade models while rest can be not allowed to have.
Anyway, why do you want 5 free slots? What for?
Who knows??

Moreover, each type of brigade has a name. If you group Cav and AC together, for example, they can only be called either "Cavalry" or "Armoured Car"...

You could always have the gliders as an attatchment for transport planes and they could reduce range but improve airborne assault?

Self propelled Art and Art are both artillery. Small or fat tanks are all tanks. Cav and AC can be called 'skirmisher' or 'recon', their 2 main purposes. It works (not right now, but in theory it does).

Good idea but the second part wont work. AFAIK brigades dont have combat/movement modifiers.

Slight tangent, but how difficult would it be to soft-code the amount of brigade types? Right now the brigade types are all hardcoded, but why not simply move them into configurable .txt files like everything else?

Wel I didn't thought of it as brigade sized commandos. The Idea was to use a commando "brigade" to represent commando troops of a ordenary size. A Improved-Hull "brigade" dosn't represent a brigade of improved-Hulls either.

But if you make it that size it would take up one valuable slot for brigades and for very dubious effects: How can we arrange the stats for such a unit? How much soft attack, how much hard attack, how much defensive... It's almost impossible to be agreed upon, as a commando unit often helps in wreaking havoc in enemy's logistics, command structure, valuable "fixed" target... that are not represented in-game.
