So the farthest I've ever gotten is about 1892. Then I get bored and switch to a different country in 1836. (Minus my CSA game) but my question is, I've seen the Ottomans get kicked off as a GP but never have any places (other than occasionally Albania) started a crisis or declared independence. Is this only late game? Does it not happen that often? It seems a bit unrealistic to have the ottomans completely in control of those areas in the late 1800s.

To be fair, the Ottoman Empire didn't break up until after WW1, so it is not really unrealistic.

Anyway, I usually only see Greece get it's territories back from crisis wars. Nothing else usually.

Ok then. I wasn't talking about dissolving the empire. But most of its eoupeans holdings were independent right? Bulgaria, Romainia, and that country that one archduke was assainated in. Nothing came of it, though. Just a footnote in history. Apologies if it sounds confontaional. Bad day

It happens but it's rare. Only Greek crisis are very common, after that some other place usually takes the lead in crisis (Poland usually).
If the ottomans do lose a few big wars, independance movements can win, I've seen Bulgaria happen that way. Serbia can be opportunist if the ottomans are losing badly against someone else.
The main problem is that when the ottomans are stable and allied with a GP, it's really hard for rebels or Serbia to do anything.

Victoria 2 diplomatic system can't really handle the subtleties of the different states of autonomy in the balkans. Bosnia had a special status for example, where Austria would some kind of control while it remained, in theory, under ottoman rule. Serbia and then Bulgaria could wage limited wars to gain land or autonomy without having to fight a Great Power etc.

I haven't played Vanilla in a while but I know that with PDM there is an event that fires which either keeps the Ottoman Empire strong or releases all balkan vassals. The more common path is to keep the Ottoman Empire strong.

It happens regularly in my games but as others have said it's only Greece or Serbia. I support them every time, and the first time it led to a war between the GPs but now I get what I want. I'm looking at the crisis mapmode and I also see Iraq and Armenia independence movements brewing, hopefully they turn into something.

The first major loss of territory in Europe by the Ottomans was Northern Bulgaria in 1878, after war with Russia. If it hadn't been for that foreign invasion it would have taken much longer for the Bulgarians to break away, if they ever would have. It's not unrealistic, it depends entirely on the international politics going on in the game - though of course those politics themselves aren't often accurate. But there's no inherent reason why an Ottoman Empire unthreatened by war should be losing any territory.

The Ottomans in my game always find either the UK or NGF/GER. So I guess that's why.

On a completely different sidenote, I didn't want to make another thread asking a third question. But I'm playing as the UK, and I wish to aquire game Chinese substate, I can't spell it, but it's near di nam.(the year is late 1839 btw). So my question is, what size army should I use to invade? I know the're not exactly small armies in China. My allies are: what's left of India, Greece, and Belgium. They have Korea.

In a recent USA game I used the Albania crisis to pick a fight with UK in about 1912. They supported the Ottoman Empire, so I supported Albania. The 2nd Great War started, and I basically let the European nations grind each other down before I occupied all UK territories and let that stew for about a year. Worked like a charm.

I would invade with a few 45k stacks of troops, but try to occupy as much as possible before China raises their huge armies. If you can't take the land by simply occupying it, then bring in more troops and crush the Chinese with superior technology.

What year should this be? Should I wait for gaurds and ironclads? Also I doubt I could muster more than 3 stacks of 45, Is that enough? How much war score is it for Guangxi?

What reason should any of the GPs, except perhaps for Russia, have for wanting the Ottoman Empire in Europe to be dismantled?

All of them recognized its breakdown would be a cause of instability and a means for Russian influence to seep into the Balkans. Britain and France fought the Crimean War to defend it, with Austria almost joining them as well. Limited late 19th-Century support for Ottoman minorities in Britain and France came about due to romanticization of the independence movements and journalism shifting public opinion against the Ottomans, e.g. "The Bulgarian Horrors", not from strategic concerns which is what the game tries to represent.

What year should this be? Should I wait for gaurds and ironclads? Also I doubt I could muster more than 3 stacks of 45, Is that enough? How much war score is it for Guangxi?
The earlier the better. You must do it before China westernizes or else you'll be screwed. I would do it with guards, but ironclads are not necessary as the Chinese navy is not a big threat. Good luck!

I did it! I called in the little Indian minors, and took som land from that on with the G(not looking up the name)! I got enough war score through fights, and had enough tech to beat them. It's almost 1864 (when the truce ends) should I go for more? Can china westernize if it's my puppet?
