So, as these screen shot shows, after so many years, after so many DLCs, some how, the paradox interacitve's AI programmer can not fix this one game breaking problem.

For some reason, the Franch decide that it is a good idea, to send 50 000 troops to its colony in South America, to ensure the safety of the new settlers, those settlers are so important, that the Franch willing to suffer thousands of death due to attrition, to protect them. Meanwhile leave a reserve of 900 people to defend its homeland, against potentail enemies and possible uprising.

And look, the 50 000 protectors of settlers are drilling, so this new DLC is a success after all.

Something similar also happened in my Mamluke run. The Ottomans shipped their whole army to Rhodes.. All 30 something thousand.
So what did i do? i attacked.:rolleyes:

Seems like the A.I. is more willing to ship troops by boats now. Just a little too happy about its new found powers tho.

Yeah the inept naval invasion AI is known. It's not been fixed because it's a complicated issue, with a complicated solution necessary, competing with other complicated issues for attention.

At least the AI does island invasions now. If I've known AI never attacked islands before it would've made my life much easier in some games.

great, just tried this save again, Franch mainland are being conquered during the 30years war, yet it still decides to send more troops to the colony in south america. I guess this gonna be the main reason for the protestant side losing the largest war during the entire period of EU4. At this moment, I just realized what a loser I am to waste time on such a game with such horrible AI, it is like trying to achieve satisfaction by beating up a kid in elementary school.

I know this AI problem might hard to solve, yet since this is truly game breaking, it should have some priority. And how hard it can be, harder than designing a new DLC? And if it is truly so unsolvable, why don't just set a hard limitaion on the amounts of troop that a mainland country can send to the new world? It is ridiculous for a European country to send its majority of army to another continent any way.

There is nothing complicated about allocating more budget for more people to fix issues from a developer who rakes in sweet cash with endless half-baked DLC.

I mean the Ottomans in my latest two 1.23 runs (ideas guy starting in Madagascar and Arabian coffee as Mamluks) run have been a a major source of hilarity, in the Mamluks game the Ottomans allied the Papal state, then during a war between them and me the Papal state naval invaded Tunis, then sat on a 4 dev desert province with 50k troops until they peaceful out.

In my ideas guy run the Ottomans had 80k troops sitting in the jungles of Indonesia, only moving them once they ended up at war with me.

The colonizer issue is already 1 year old. AI always uses Native Coexistence Policy. Why on earth is it sending troops to the colonies, let alone the constant attrition. Should it not be easy to get the AI ignoring colonies unless there is a war near them? I cant imagine its difficult but you are the expert.

This problem is too hard to be solved,so just consider it is part of the peace treaty, instead exile the head of nation to some islands, they decided to exile the entire French army to some islands.

France nerfed!

It's mainly about dealing with existing code. The existing code doesn't permit the AI to do that kind of reasoning. Meanwhile, any new code needs to be able to connect to other existing code (and be glad you didn't have to read EU4 codebase). So seemingly very simple issues can have fairly complex solutions. Many AI issues are typically also simple when looked at in isolation from a single angle, but then the same code needs to work in a lot of other contexts without behaving stupidly.

I am also seeing this issue, with France in the mascarenes. They have 65k troops on two completed colonies.
I had a similar situation with England. I was concentrating on Europe. So I just sent a twenty stack over to some pacific islands. Didn't know anything was wrong until I got the battle notification that my stack had been wiped by 40k english defending some worthless island. I had to laugh.

Just playing my second game of EUIV as Spain, got Exploration, found South America, and there France has a colony with 42k troops in it - leaving only 18k troops behind in France.

Wish I'd known before I started my own colonies in South America, or I would have declared war, blockaded him and occupied all of France.

So many AI programming experts in this thread, you should all apply to work for Paradox since apparently you're such experts and its so easy :D
Competent programmers would, if anything, be driven away if they saw this kind of code smell, and I'm saying that as one. Problem is, this is more commonplace in the gaming industry than it has to be. Be glad you don't have to deal with the ineptitude of Codemasters for instance.

While this is borderline gamebreaking bug, I bet EU4 AI code is a genuine spaghetti code. Probably it is not as simple as 'if 'colonies not under threat' then 'no troops to colonies' end' kind of code.

I get that, it's an old game so you're most likely right and it was bound to happen to some extent, but that's exactly why it's important to work towards avoiding that from as early in the project as possible.
