No problems so far... can use the template to convert your population, and in the end i did, need all the help i can get against the other random disasters aroundUnless there's some unforeseen consequence that only shows up years down the line...
They're Trill.
The slugs also dissappear from POPs if you go cyborg, but the leaders keep theirs. Kinda feel bad about apparently wiping out an entire species with cybernetics.
If you get the slugs after you already went Cybernetic then the slugs remove the cybernetic implants. Except the first scientist to get a slug who has both (and is also Spark of Genius in my game).
MODERATE SPOILERS FOR RGB ANOMALY FOLLOW!
Not sure what the intended interaction but it seems like some of the new anomalies provide indirect nerfs to ascension paths. RGB is pretty significant nerf to bio ascension (and indeed synthetic if you go all the way). I wonder how slugs interact with psionics.
How worthwhile is it to spend 2 perks on Synthetic ascension when you can get venerable or highly adaptive and brain slugs for free? Once they work anyway.
The Trill are symbiotic though. Not parasites. The DS9 novels have a neat storyline where the two are linked with the parasites being a generally engineered offshot of the symbiotes that got out of controlTrill and the damn insect things from season 1 of TNG.
I can see the downside for synthetic ascension, since you're forced to leave such biological tools behind, but I don't see the issue for biological ascension. I suppose a free 4 point trait makes the extra 6 from the path a relatively smaller advantage, but you still have the special traits, and the RGB trait frees up points for something like Fertile. You could also combine Robust and Extremely Adaptive to get to full habitability everywhere without having to terraform or embrace the Worm.If you get the slugs after you already went Cybernetic then the slugs remove the cybernetic implants. They do and they don't. The slugs stay but I don't think the double buff to pop unity output stacks.
You can just apply the template that does have slugs to all the slug-free pops. Now your entire species is slugged.
Wait to open the box until you do your gene modding. It's the same technique as when embracing the worm: Do whatever gene modding you need first, then trigger the events that add new traits on top of that. When I got RGB with my Psionic ascension, I left the box project in the log until I got Targeted Gene Expressions and revamped my species. Bio Ascension can use the same technique. Synth Ascension can just use it right away and take advantage of the trait until they turn themselves into robots. It doesn't free up points, though. Your new species template from RGB will be at -4 gene points.
Actually, it would be cool if this was by design .. Since the slugs make you THINK that you're smarter, more productive etc. while all they do is hamper your development slightly. A bit convoluted and meta-gamey and almost 100% not the case but sounds cool to me the game screwing with the players a bit (where it actually makes sense)
The only downside that I have noticed by letting them use my species as hosts is a temporary unrest boost (fear of slugs). I was not xenophobic.
Sad that it doesn't work. Anyway accept their offer was a bad idea from my RP perspective, I just couldn't help myself and see what will happen

I got the brain slug event playing a devouring swarm. One weird thing then is that only some pops got the bug, same as any other species. However, the rationale that these were the only ones who were willing hosts seems weird - I play a gestalt consciousness, it's not like the drones have any will of their own. If I say we accept the brain bugs, we accept them.
The brain bugs seem to work fine with respect to tile yields, at least.
One thought though: I was going to go for biological ascension, but it seems to me I won't get very much out of that since one trait and quite a few trait points went into the brain bugs. Thoughts?
