if they went with the old expansion model, you would have to pay for it... so what you seem to be commenting on is you want all new stuff for free... you can still play it the old way, just like you would be able to play it the old way if they used an expansion model...

No he doesn't want the free stuff either. He doesn't want to be forced with part of the free stuff and then needing to buy an expansion to make it work like intended.

Old skool expansions had the original content and then changed lot's of game mechanics, adding factions and things. But you did get the whole package in the expansion or nothing. For this DLC specific that would mean the old building system as it was for everyone that doesn't buy the game, the new building system with development for everybody that buys the DLC.

Now I don't think it's done from a money standpoint only, I think the reason is more that the building systems are so differently that it would be a problem for future patches and DLC's if part of the players kept the old system. But it also was such a change and overhaul that I can think it took lot's of manhours to do and so they couldn't make the entire thing free either, because then it wouldn't pay itself back...

There are plenty of 'core' features where you need to pay to make it work the 'right way'. For example: Transfer occupation is a crucial part of waging war the 'right way'. Caravan Power is a crucial part of making money from land trade.

This is an inevitable result of our expansion model, because if we couldn't touch core features we'd be unable to expand the game in any meaningful way.

No, you'd just need to do it more like CK2: the base game is more or less the same (barring minor aberrations like retinues and WoL focus), but the DLCs restrict whom you can play by government type and/or religion. (Although for example I wonder what happens if you're playing Horse Lords without SOI/TOG/ROI and you happen upon the wrong religion. I'm guessing game over, but maybe not.)

Needing to buy DLC to access "improve" basic features like transfer occupation and buildings just feels bad, man. Not that you can change it now, but if EU5 was "base game: play Europe and all future UI/feature improvements" followed by "DLC1: play India for pay, but all UI/feature improvements are free" and then "DLC2: China" etc., it would feel a lot better.

Ok, just to be sure and understand each other better, the problem you have is that in the game without CS if you hover over the development part (or construction, i don't remember) you can read "cannot build without X!

In essence yes! That and the fact that the dlc came out at the same time. If it did not say "cannot build without X" and the Dlc came out 5 months after, I would not have said anything at all!

I don't want to be overly critical but, have you ever stopped for a moment and thought that maybe, the problem is that you have nothing important to do?
Because, hell, I'm dirt poor and I would like to have a bunch of games and dlc for free because videogames are a really good form of escapism. But that doesn't mean that when I write on a forum I feel the need to be "outraged" because of a game, or of an advertising, or something similar. If, as you written, you are so interested in looking at the man in the mirror, than do it, and remember that you are really lucky if the worst thing you can think of are paradox dlc!
And yet you and a hundred others have nothing better to do then write your own little essays about why I am wrong... Hmmm... Is that not...stealish.. no metallic... no ahh I remember ironic.

I'd call it common sense.

You hopefully see how many people disagree with you and understand why. And if not, if you want to boycott Paradox, you really shouldn't have an account for their forum, no?

So the only thing you're angry about is that the game has the audacity, the NERVE, to inform you why you can't do certain things? Withholding that information would soothe your weary soul?

Hi everyone. I am not sure how long this post will last here and if and when I will be banned for this. Lets face it, free speach is the latest casulty of cour once great civilisation.

But I can not just sit idly by and not expres my thoughts.

As you can all see from my "badges" I have been a faithful costumer of paradox for nearly 10 years now. I have bought many of their games, many of their expansions and as you can see from my posts if you care, I have defended them even during the Hoi3 release.

But this as they say is the needle that broke the camels back. To release a patch that is nothing but a hidden advertisment for a dlc is basiclly EA tactics at its finest. Its like dragon age with that campfire dudes trying to give you a quest. But this is even worse since now you can no longer build everything anymore.

For these of you who are saying that this is basically giving you half a dlc for free... well NO!. This is maipulatory advertisement. If they wanted to be customer friendly they would have released a demo version of their expansion that you could have download and tested for free. The difference between these two methods would have been that you would have known that you get a demo.

THAT IS A BIG DIFFERENCE. I dont know if you guys know this or not, but for example the big channles on youtube etc. are REQUIRED BY LAW to make it clear when they are sponsored by companies. This is because the customer must know if somehting could be an advertisement. Because, BY LAW!, advertisement that is not labled as such is not allowed. Just cause the big (un)hollywood companies do it, does not mean its allowed.

This patch is manipulatory advertisement at its finest and a disgrace for a once great company.

I will never buy any of your games again paradox and I hope many here will follow me.

Not anymore. Really, they are quite big now. Not as big as EA mind you, but they are already a big company.
According to Johan, during this past summer, PDS has a total staff of ~80 employees. The individual teams that work on these games are very small. I think you're confusing Paradox's manpower with their influence. Channeling my inner Johan here, I would like to have what you're smoking.

1st, 80 devs are not a small company, 2nd ... well yes its about influnce not manpower... duh... I.e. influnce, income etc. They are not some tiny inexperianced comany with 2 guys programing from their basement. They are a serious company who knows what they are doing.

Nobody wants free stuff when you have to pay for core game mechanics, on the contrary, we want core game mechanics changed for free and everything that is an addition to the base game to be for pay. That's the principle. Transfer occupation eg. should be in a dlc, because it adds to the game.

Well said. But the problem is that they fully understand what I am saying, they just want to mock it and misunderstand on purpose cause they know its right.
