To be fair I don't really mind paying for these awesome expansions. I have logged almost 1800 hours on steam (which probably is like 1200 actual hours of gameplay). It probably cost me around 50 euros to buy all expansions (using sale and whatnot). 50,00 / 1200 = 0.04, meaning 4 cents per hour! One night going out costs about the same and gives way less for your buck.
This, so much this. alot of people have over 1k hours in this game (5k here) You get so much replayability and the game stays fresh becauae of patches and whatnot so these posts about uhrr uhrrr dlc uhrrr mad angry uhhrr EA uhrrr are insane because if you have to pay 100 euro to own all dlc for assasinscreed and proceed to play 100 hours max thats expensive but i cant imagine anyone willing to buy and play eu4 will play less than that

Ohh but you do.. while you dont link to the steampage you do have a nice little lock button that says that the new slot will unlock at developement lvl 10, lvl 20 etc. things you can not raise without a dlc.

Development goes up from events.

Its retarded that people throw a tantrum about developing provinces. Before we had BT and it was impossible to manually change BT over the course of the game. Now its actually possible and people complain. Guess they shouldnt have added that feature.

No they should not have added it as a semi-feature in a patch, but as a dlc...

Wiz, can I perhaps ask, is Paradox happy with the current building system?

I'm asking because honestly, I still see it as a step backwards. Less buildings but with bigger effects sounds okay in theory, but they're quite bland and I hardly ever get excited by unlocking new buildings.

Less building slots leads to saying: "Well I won't build anything yet because I need building X and it ain't unlocked yet". Ten minutes later, I make the rounds of my provinces again and I need to go through the exact same train of thought again because I still haven't unlocked what I want and I've forgotten by now what I wanted here.

And Development sounds nice in theory, again, but you never end up saving up MP for it. It's not important enough, or it doesn't feel important enough. Maybe as an OPM, but when have you said to yourself: "Oooh, I really need to improve that province, that tech/idea can wait"? To me Development is an afterthought, not a priority...

I feel the patch took two steps back.
Development is a step forward, but net result is still a step back.
The fact that these sorts of threads keep popping up is to me a clear indication that this sentiment is, broadly speaking, present in a good portion of the player base.

So are you guys working on taking the next two steps forward with these systems so we can finally say that yes, we have something better than we had before?
As a western nation, which cant expand quickly enough it is sometimes worth your MP. If you play republic even with national focus DIP/ADM you will most likely have surplus of military MP. I get Military tech ahead of time almost exclusivity at the start of war (having 9xx for years) in SP. Going heavily in military ideas and polices could solve this problem. Bumping provinces dev from *9 or *8 to *0 provide you quite nice boost locally (building slot). I do spend DIP/ADM points to develop provinces in similar manner sometimes (DIP is better especially in provinces with Iron, Coper etc). In long run this +70% ahead of time for admin tech is less important than 4 building slots and some development. Or accepted culture (and than converted without -2% missionary strength for unaccepted culture).
@Phönix - so your talking for talking itself or for filling better? I don't really get it. If this just your reflection, something what makes you thinking what we (as community or gamers) can accept nowadays and it is harmful in some way why you add "boycott" to topic's name? If you feel boycott is a way you still want it to succeed. Other way you are possibly harmful for the community as potentially important problems listed by you will be linked in other users minds with fail threads ("this can't be serious issue", "i don't care").

This conversation makes sense to me, i think they made a little mistake. Paradox should allow vanilla user to spend monarch points on development because this is more than just a gameplay feature.

I personnaly bought the dlc, and i won't find it unfair if they do so.

No i dont want them to do anything new for vanilla users. All I am saying is that they should not abuse a patch as advertisement. P.s. to all these now who say that I am a dramaqueen etc... well if it was about drama and attention I would not have used a 10 year old account. You guys dont even try to understand what direction they are taking. I hope you guys are just a vocal fanboy minority and that the average gamer sees through this kinds of shabby and shady business tactics... but somehow I doubt it.

This has been discussed many times and nothing has changed. Also, it seems most people attending the forums are more hardcore players and less likely to follow your suggestion, so you might be more convincing by reviewing the game on steam.
I agree about the point regarding development and buildings, if a core mechanic is changed, it should be free for all, whereas forts and other features that actually add to and don't change the core game should be in the dlc.
I don't know why paradox implemented it this way, may it be technical reasons or having to finance the development of the game by "blackmailing" the purchase of the dlc. However, i think those who bought CS would buy it regardless of the aforementioned issues.
So, though i bought CS -since i like the game and feel it has paid for itself considering the time i have played-, i think paradox should have done things differently with CS and could have saved me the discomfort of believing to be deceived, even a little.

You guys dont even try to understand what direction they are taking.

Which path are you talking about ? The path of a bigger industrial company in a liberal capitalistic world ? I've read enough to think this was not intended at this level as you may say... we are all humans after all (quoted daft punk)
i believe they really listen to ours feedbacks... (like real democracy) so if you have something to complain about go ahead. And if it does make (commun) sense, they will listen. This is how i feel about paradox. Damn i hope i'm not the vocal fanboy minority by myself.

I haven't been reading anything except the Dev's comments on this post, but I just want to say to the Dev's, Italy's great. Thanks. I've been playing my first game in Italy with Venice, and it's super awesome. Especially Mantua, the opm that's at 37 development by 1497. Food :)

Even if I agreed with what you are saying about hidden advertisements etc., wouldn't a boycott be a bit too much?

I mean, people wanted to boycot Nestlé when they pushed unhealthy mother's milk subsitutes in development countries, H&M because of unliveable working conditions in India and Bangladesh, or Coca-cola for emptying local Indian water supplies.

You might be frustrated, and frustrated customers stop buying things from a company - that's OK.
But encouraging others to boycot a company should in my opinion be reserved to companies with deeply unethical practices, something I really can't see is the case here.

I don't see what the problem is. You couldn't raise these things before with the old system outside of events. The only thing that changed for you is you no longer have to ability to build what? 20 buildings, most of which sucked and weren't worth the time, mp, and effort of building. Now you get a smaller selection of more powerful buildings and have to make a meaningful choice on what you want. Plus no no cost. I call it a win even without the dlc.

But this as they say is the needle that broke the camels back.
Wait, wasn't it a straw that broke the Camel's back?

Or are you trying to say that it is easier for a Camel to go through the eye of a needle than to tolerate Paradox's outrageous DLC policies?

Or were you just trying to make a Camel pass though a straw without having bought the latest "Camel passage through Straws" DLC from Paradox and so now you're whining?

Or maybe it's something about the symbiotic relationship that needles and straws have with the animals from the Genus Camelus...

OP please, you must clarify this highly contentious point or I don't see this argument going anywhere!

You are complaining about them giving us free new features..? Where were you to complain when art of war came out and you got a free map expansion? You complain when it suits you.
They added features, and let you enjoy it. The way it is, people without the dlc can play with peiple who do have all dlc in multiplayer, rather than how in eu3 everyone had to buy everything to play together. Sure, you personally might not play MP. But for those who do this is very very significant.
And what's so wrong about a company advertising its dlc? When you watch tv and get commercials do you boycott every company?
If you order a hamburder at mcdonaldsand they offer you a 2nd one for half price do you flip the table and leave in outrage?
I really cant see the issue. Nothing was taken from you and put behind a paywall. A system was changed.
You can still build. Development can still increase via events, same as before, unlocking buildings. Your entire argument is baseless.
