The advertising is comming from blocking you to build building without development and you only beeing able to develop if you buy a DLC. That is what I am talking about.

You can build buildings without Common Sense. The difference between the patch and the expansion is that you can build 1 (one) more building per 500 so monarch points you spend. You could also very easily mod the game to give yourself 12 building slots in every province. Calling this 'advertisement' shows that you have absolutely no idea as to the meaning of the words you're using.

Anyway, I'm curious, I know that in internet EA is the spawn of Satan and Astarte, but what do you have against the Dragon Age campfaire quests? I thought they were a brilliant and funny way to insert some new content into the gameword.

He's talking about the DLC-hocking NPC that would appear in your game and offer you a quest if you'd just swipe your credit card here, please. The equivalent would be us having expansion-only feature buttons show up in the game but only take you to the steam store if clicked. Something we're obviously never going to do.

Ohh but you do.. while you dont link to the steampage you do have a nice little lock button that says that the new slot will unlock at developement lvl 10, lvl 20 etc. things you can not raise without a dlc.

Development goes up from events.

Once again, you get one more building per ~500 monarch points. That is not the 'difference between 1-2 building on a province, or 20' unless you're rocking 30/30/30 monarchs.

While I think the complaints are way out of proportion (I'd go so far as to say unfounded, but I'm not in the situation, so ...), this is simply not the case.
Quite often I'll spend points on dev in provinces just to open the next building slot, when provinces are close anyways.
So it's not uncommon to be able to open another slot for well below 100 points and even very close to 50 in low dev provinces.

Even so, conquering gives you far more buildings than developing. I'm not saying you don't benefit from having the expansion, but people act as though if you don't have Common Sense you can't build at all, while the difference in reality is maybe 20-30 buildings over the course of a normal game.

The ironic thing is....I don't actually want to buy Common Sense since I like developement and building slots without manually raising it with MP(and because I have weak willpower, thus I will end up using it if I buy the DLC :( )

You can always mod it if you're not going for achievements.

Huh, didn't know that you can mod out spending MP on raising developement...I will have to intently stare into the soul of the code.

Just raise the cost to 10000 in defines.

Well, you certainly won't receive legal action for such a post but banning someone doesn't carry the same standard as legal free speech :p.

That said, OP is losing track of the issue, which is that some things you could do previously are put behind DLC if you want to be able to continue to do them. This is a grey area in EU IV, and the practice wrt for example vassals comes of as unnecessarily shady while most of the DLC doesn't.

In which way are vassals shady?

I still don't understand the logic behind the development-building link being behind a paywall, and unfortunately wiz, instead of giving some valid reason, you hide behind "but it actually isn't of any importance, why do you bother?". Well, some people are bothered, and though we understand this is a company, and you are not obliged to discuss your decisions with us, it would be nice if you gave us the reasoning for this decision, instead of trying to dodge the initial argument with comments like that.

Because the only way to not do that would be to make development free, and I don't buy the argument that being able to increase building slots (which is just a secondary effect of development in the first place) is so incredibly crucial that it absolutely needs to be free. I can think of far more important things that are 'behind a paywall', because ultimately we are a business and unless we can charge money for expansions we won't have any money to pay for continued development.

There are plenty of 'core' features where you need to pay to make it work the 'right way'. For example: Transfer occupation is a crucial part of waging war the 'right way'. Caravan Power is a crucial part of making money from land trade.

This is an inevitable result of our expansion model, because if we couldn't touch core features we'd be unable to expand the game in any meaningful way.

In fact, since under the old model you'd be stuck in the previous patch, why don't you just revert to 1.11 and enjoy the full experience of the old expansion system?

Nobody wants free stuff when you have to pay for core game mechanics, on the contrary, we want core game mechanics changed for free and everything that is an addition to the base game to be for pay. That's the principle. Transfer occupation eg. should be in a dlc, because it adds to the game.

Development is an addition to the game.

But is required for something that is a replacement of a core mechanic to work as intended.

Buildings work perfectly fine without development, and even without Common Sense it's a far better system than the old one.

But buildings is not, and linking the two was a poor choice in regard to tying the one to the dlc.

I think here is where we'll just have to agree to disagree. The building rework would simply not have happened without development to link it to because the two were simultaneously designed.

Thats a personal opinion dont you agree?

It's my opinion as one of the two people who design the expansions, and it's ultimately our opinions that decide what features are changed/added and how.

It's also my observation that people who call the building system without development 'unplayable' or 'half a feature' can never justify this with a gameplay argument, and their discontent almost always seems rooted in some manufactured moral outrage that has nothing to do with the actual state of the game.

It's further my observation that even people who don't have Common Sense aren't exactly clamoring to have the buildings system back.

The last part is not quite true and in extreme cases can lead to legal actions. There are some things called consumer protection laws. Oh and btw, please dont start the meme things again guys, no I am not saying I will, I am simply saying that in general that statement is not fully corrent.

But bakc to the quote, while you are basically right, I as a consumer also hate the right to call you out on this. ;)

You probably wouldn't have had to suffer quite so much ridicule if you hadn't decided to treat the exact specifics of paid-vs-free feature distribution in an expansion for a computer game as the Last Stand of Free Speech and True Liberty, FYI.

I agree it's a far better system. I also understand you couldn't develop or maintain the game keeping in mind both building systems.
But you know what? There was a very simple solution to all this. On launch of CS there could have been this little paragraph from you:
"The building rework would simply not have happened without development to link it to because the two were simultaneously designed. So, unfortunately, though we provide our customers with the new building system, since we can't maintain both, and with the new development system for their provinces, we need to keep the development raising system in the dlc, becuase it is a new feature (since you couldn't raise base tax etc. with the previous system). This will be locked for the people who don't own Common Sense. We are sorry but this is a matter of dealing with the cost of both developing the new system and maintaining the previous one. Thank you for your understanding.
However, the new system has this and those features, so we feel we are not taking away anything from your gaming experience, since even without the dlc, province development does (not) add this and this, and you will not feel any major difference.
Paradox Studios".

I'm fairly certain I've said these exact things in various threads spawned on this topic. I don't think forum outrage automatically necessitates an official response.

It should have been an information before downloading a patch, not on a thread where someone is agry with the changes.

If we were to try and pre-empt every single thing the internet might get outraged out, we'd need hire a staff of writers for the job.
