There are 2 ways to become stalinist as Spain:

A) When the civil war starts "The Antifascist Worker's Revolution" --> "Solidify Government Control". This will unlock stalinist ministers while keeping the democratic ones
B) When the civil war starts "Maintain the Second Republic" --> "Communists in the Government". This will unlock stalinist ministers but disable democratic ones

Shouldn't it be the other way around? The communist branch seems to imply a total takeover in the context of the war, while the democratic branch is about joining forces against fascism

Unfortunately the way it designed there wasn't much thought given to historical plausibility. The way the 'historical' path for the Republic was designed I personally found to be pretty disappointing, although overall the design of Spain is pretty good.

Don't count on any changes coming. There were some large discussions about problems with Republican Spain just after the release of La Resistance and we did succeed in getting some changes made that improved the experience of playing the Republic, but more significant changes were ruled out by the devs as not being possible due to lack of available resources for the team to dedicate to it.

Ah yes, lack of avaiable resources when the studio is working on 5 different games at the same time...

Thanks for the input anyway. I don't know why I expected any better from Paradox at this point tbh

Are you referring to this thread?

If so, I'm not sure your recollection is entirely accurate. @Bratyn was very appreciative of your detailed feedback, and he implemented some of your suggestions. Others he simply disagreed with and explained why--I didn't notice a lack of resources ever being mentioned.

Bratyn's approach to the Republicans, which he explained in the linked thread, may not have pleased everybody, but I think it's unfair to say "there wasn't much thought given" to historical plausibility. It seems clear a tremendous amount of research went into making the Spanish focus tree--the design of the Republicans was always going to come to: how does one allow a side that historically lost the war due to bad decision-making to reverse its fortunes in a plausible manner?
