I've been fighting the USSR as Imperial Japan from the east while the Axis has had its run of "Barbarossa" from the west. That being said, I am not allied with Germany (didn't want to fight the Allies in the Pacific and the Communists; that would've been a micromanaging nightmare). So, we nicely carve up the Soviet territory and meet each other on a line that roughly run north to the Pole from Baku at the Kaspian Sea.

Now, apparently the "Bitter Peace" event fires for Germany. I get prompted that the USSR accepted my peace offer (which I had not offered), all my troops get automatically strategically redeployed to the Chinese coast and I end up with maybe a sixth of the USSR's eastern provinces, half of those not even connected?! How is that even possible? I had all that territory occupied! I did not want to sign a peace agreement. And it took me 2 1/2 years to get my slow moving troops to that point!

Seriously, I feel a bit cheated by the game now.

EDIT: Something else that occured to me was that even though Vichy France was created, I was not given a choice to demand their provinces.

You can either edit the save to give vladivostok to ussr (so the event doesn't fire) or you can comment/delete the event in the db/event folder so you can annex ussr.

Yes, the BP is borked as Japan or Japanese ally regardless if you are allied with Germany or not.
The thing I usually do when BP fires, is to back to the last saved game and use "acceptall" to make a separate peace deal before BP fires.

Has anyone tried what happens if you are with war against Germany as Japan when BP fires?
(Assuming you are fighting USSR as Japan).

The event only gives away to Japan if they are allied to Germany at the time.

No. JAP and GER either need to be allied OR both of them at war with USSR.

Yes, learned that the hard way in a game as India allied with Japan. (Fighting USSR, not allied to Germany)
I had conquerd almost everything from Baku to Tannu Tuva, when BP fired, I lost everything

So reverted back to latest save game, and negotiated a good separate peace deal before BP fired.

I was refering to Japan getting Siberia in the event of a BP.
