Born in the Purple in Rome

I did a quick search a while back and couldn't find anything about whether children still get the Born in the Purple trait after moving the capital of the Roman Empire back to Rome. So I just wanted to make a quick thread to confirm for other curious players that it still happens.

I guess the purple wall hangings (or whatever) from the birthing room can, in fact, make the move across the Mediterranean along with the bureaucratic and governmental offices.

Yes, moving the capital has nothing to do with it. It's just a matter of having the e_byzantium or e_roman_empire title. You could move your capital to Mallorca and still get purple born heirs.

Born purple was created by Leo the Wise so family cam more legit, plus he hard have children marry several time, and Orthodox church you can only merry so many time, he gone pass that quoted, to make his children come off more legit he made the Purple room.

purple_born_heirs is tied to the realm tag, not a province. As long as you're either e_byzantium or e_roman_empire, your children born during your rule will be Porphyrogenitos.

Historically there was, I believe, also a strong association of legitimacy with having been born *in* the imperial palace (presumably regardless of which palace that might be). I wonder if it would make an amusing event if the mother happened to be traveling when it suddenly was time to give birth...

Also, in regards to history: Yes, being Porphyrogenitos had everything to do with the decoration of the room in question (the Purple Room of the Imperial Palace at Constantinople). In order to be Porphyrogenitos, you had to be the child of the ruling Basileus and Baseleia/Augusta (and she had to have undergone the ceremony to make her an Augusta), and had to be born in the Purple Room.

In game terms, of course, you just need to be e_byzantium or e_roman_empire for your kids to be Porphyrogenitos.

Interestingly enough being born in the purple is more important when dealing with primogeniture succession however. I currently have a game where I am the Greek queen of Sicily and my husband is emperor. I had my husband placed on the thrown by waving my well endowed body around (attractive bonus is really helpful in making friends sometimes) and getting support for the civil war to place oust my brother-in-law. Unfortunately our first child was born before my husband took the throne and despite having inherited my husbands genius is no longer in first in line for the throne since a second unremarkable son was born in the purple.

I would suggest changing to elective. If you were the one in charge of the ERE, you could simply make the first child a despot (honorary title).

but that is easily amended by giving the firstborn the honorary title designed to even that out - don't know if it's Caesar, Despot or whatever, but you can actually do that

Porphyry is an igneous stone similar to quartz whereas marble is a metamorphic stone similar to limestone.

I'm not the emperor so I can't do any of that. However for some unknown reason after placing my husband on the throne half of the empire somehow managed to fall into my vassal dukes hands so I comprise about 2/3 of the empire. I think it had something to do with me forcing him to be Catholic but I'm not entirely sure.

Nah, make your kingdom elective. Then select your second son. You don't get genius, but you also don't suffer realm split.

There is purple marble and that's not the same as porphyry.

You could always just do a quite tag switch to the Emperor and hand out the Despot title and tag switch back to Sicily, all from the console and all while paused if you wanted to go that route.

Well the genius son is to skilled to pass up and considering that I control over half of the empire I will either overthrow the second son when he inherits (shouldn't be to hard since he will hold 2 provinces) or that son will suffer an accident.

I also figured out why my vassals gained so much Greek/Bulgarian territory. It seems for some reason my husband decided to revoke the title of some Orthodox dukes and gave the titles to the only landed Catholic in his entire realm, hence my vassals.
