Are there any starts in CK2 where you can play as a Borgia? If not, is there a mod that will let me do this?

As the eldest, Cesare Borgia, was born in 1475, and the latest start date is 1337... they're a century and half too late.

You could rename any dynasty to Borgia, even in Ironman. And get a CoA quite close to it too, with a party par fesse, red bull design, the background on the lower half green and the upper half gold.

Game timeline ends before Borgias had any notable titles, so you can't play as them, really. The Western Europe 1469 mod,
Which has 1469 bookmark, is your best bet. I don't know myself if the mod already has a minor Borgia in Spain, but it is being developed and due to it's zoomed map scale I think a Borgia might be encountered in the future.

Yep. in 1337, the Borgias own a barony on the east coast of Spain. You can start a game as their liege/ruler, give them a county, and then switch to play as them.

To be exact, you'll find a de Borja as the Baron of Borja in the County of Zaragoza. Not entirely sure if its the actual de Borjas / Borgias or not though, but even if they aren't the idea of RPing as the Borgias in CK2 would probably make for an insane game. If you think about it, they would practically be the poster children for CK2 since they were very famous for political intrigue, assassinations, seduction, etc. When I was going through the game's files there also must be a Medici somewhere as well, because I did find an entry in the dynasties.txt. Would sort of make sense, since I believe the Medici have their origins going back to 1293.

If Paradox ever wanted to do something for the Late Game, then they could definitely have some fun with the Borgias, Medici, Sforza, and the whole lot from the Italian Renaissance come to think of it. You combine that with say trade and naval mechanics plus maybe a tech overhaul (Gunpowder, anyone?), and I'd be willing to bet you'd get one heck of a winning combination.

If I remember correctly, the first Borgia to come to prominence, Alfons, became Pope Calixtus III on the 8th of April, 1455. He cleared the way for all other Borgias. But he was a cardinal before, so the Borgias should definitely appear in CK2 in one form or another.

One of the earliest named Borgias was on Rodrigo de Borja who participated in the conquest of Orihuela in 1272. He was an ancestor of Pope Alexander VI

Inland republics. Yes, they have been requested for a long time. It would also make Novgorod and some other interesting republics playable.

It's quite a shame that the last playable date is 1337. I dont want to complain but I always had the feeling that some of historys most interesting families like the Tudors, Borgia and Medici, who always felt like the role models for ck2, got missed. I still hope we get a later start date although most people here seem to be interested in the very opposite of that.

That is why I think they should expand the game end date to 1492 and create scalable start dates all the way to start of the War of the Roses. There are a whole lot of great historical characters and dynasties that emerged after 1337 and lots of wasted potential is there.

In fact they should also tweak the 1337 start date. HYW never starts in this game, England and France should start out at war.

I am just glad that the Orsini's are playable from 1066 onwards. A shame they're not playable earlier, but glad that they featured prominently.

I probably should start a new thread, but as this is still fairly related - wondered whether the Colonna family are playable from any of CK2 start dates? They're prominent enough, given their historical feud with the Orsini family.
