Am I supposed to get booted completely out of the protestant league when I become party to an unrelated truce with the emperor?

In my BBurg--> Prussia game I had recently joined and become leader of the Protestant league. I am allied with France and France dragged me into an offensive war with Austria. France spanked them and peaced out after vassalizing Britanny. After that war, I got booted from the Protestant league and couldn't join again for a decade until the truce ended. I understand that I shouldn't be able to pull the trigger on the league war if I have a truce with the emperor, but is it WAD that I get thrown out of the league altogether? Shouldn't i still be IN the league, just not leading it or otherwise unable to trigger the war until the truce is up?
