Hey guys,
Bit of a weird question here.
I'm looking for books or other ressources regarding musical composition in the soviet union but with an emphasis on musical theory as opposed to simply a biography or a history based narrative.
The reason I'm asking is because I remember hearing about composers having to deal with the fact that most russians didn't have access to instruments so most songs had to be choir based and most russians didn't have very strong musical knowledge so therefore music had to be anthem-like and easy to sing without special training.
This seemed very interesting and.... I'm in a band and we want to write our third album in a different way than we wrote our first two.
My first instinct is to find books on the red army choir but I'm afraid that those works would be more focused on politics and individual biographies as opposed to the guiding musical theories guiding their work.
Any thoughts?
Essentially I'm looking for a musical history book the same way that the CCCP cookbook by Olga and Pavel Syutkin is a history book.
Thanks!
EDIT: It's been years since I posted and just noticed my game registration badges are gone. Should I re-register them?
